I love spotting mirror numbers in the wild because the subtraction is so satisfying! I call them mirror numbers because their digits are the reverse of each other, like 73 and 37: For 73-37 we just find the difference between the digits: ✨7-3=4 Then multiply that by 9: ✨4x9=36 So 73-37=36 🤓 👉 For more mathematical resources, check out our books, courses, and bookmarks on our website at www.sumsofanarchy.com (link in bio). “My child is currently learning the times tables at school and I thought I might have left it a bit late to get resources to help in this area of maths. Putting my trust in all the 5 star reviews, I purchased it anyways. I am so glad I did, my child loves this book!! Brilliantly written, its fun, easy to understand, bright and colourful, shows you more than one way to learn the tables. This actually reinforces the learning at school. Absolutely no regrets, its a must buy.”⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ➕ ➖ ✖️ ➗ #mondaymorningmentalmaths #mathstricks #funfacts #homeschoolmath

What’s going on? What if the digits add up to 10 or more… Whattt??! 🧐 Excellent questions! Let’s take a look: 📌Well, what’s going on is that if we have to multiply a two-digit number by 11, we can just add those digits and stick the answer in the middle: 35x11 ✨3+5=8️⃣ ✨Stick the 8 in between the 3 and 5 35x11=38️⃣5 📌If the digits add up to 10 or more, we’ll have to carry a 1: 39x11 ✨3+9=12 ✨Stick the 2 in between the 3 and 9, add the 1 to the 3 39x11=42️⃣9 📌Why does it work? I’ve dropped an explanation in the comments. 📌Do you have more times tables tips like this? Absolutely! Check out our clever bookmark set on our website or comment MATHEMAGIC for a link to purchase❤️ “I bought one set of these excellent bookmarks for my daughter and one for our neighbours’ kid. It feels like a much less intrusive way to get them exploring their Times Tables, without them feeling under pressure from us parents.”⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “I have been a teacher for over 20 years and I have had students who struggle in 5th, 6th, and 7th grade to understand multiplication. I can’t wait to share these strategies with my students! A truly great resource!”⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “We’ve struggled with times tables for such a long time, my kids loved the times tables hacks on the reverse” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “Both children love this set! I asked my daughter (7yrs) what she liked about them and she said ‘I like reading books and being smart so they are perfect!’”⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ➕ ➖ ✖️ ➗ #mondaymorningmentalmaths #mathstricks #funfacts #homeschoolmath #multiplication

If your child doesn’t know how to find equivalent fractions, this page of my book is for you! This is the most common fractions ‘hack’ that all teachers use - drawing the arrows between the numerators and denominators to remind the kids “whatever you do to the top, you do to the bottom.” This is the next step after using the diagrams to really strengthen understanding. This is an essential skill which is first taught in Year 3 or Year 4 and is one of the main areas I see children making mistakes in when it comes to their Year 6 SATs! #fractions #maths

Have some loose change in the top draw of your desk? Grab them and play 'How much money is in my pocket?' Once the coins are hidden away, call on students to ask a series of yes/no questions in order to figure out the mystery amount. Once all questions have been asked, students must record their guess before you reveal all. This is such a simple game, but incredible for place value, number properties, practising less than and greater than, and so much more! Loved this maths warm up idea? I send no-prep activities just like this to my Monday Morning Maths club every week! To get next Mondays installment, comment MONDAY below and I'll grab your details.

When the numbers are complementary, the multiplication’s elementary 🤓 Complementary pairs are two numbers with the same tens digit, and ones digits that add up to ten. To multiply them: ✨We just multiply the tens digit by the next number up. ✨Then multiply the units digits. e.g. 24x26 2x3=6️⃣ 4x6=2️⃣4️⃣ ➡️624 If the second part gives a 1-digit answer, stick a zero in front: e.g. 21x29 2x3=6 1x9=09 609 👌🏽 👉Our brand new Mathemagic course for mental multiplication will be out soon, so if you need to brush up on your times tables, now’s the time! The whole concept - the “storytelling” style it’s written, the colour scheme, and super easy child-tailored instructions to follow. WE love it!! Thank you for all you’re doing for children and maths!” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “Fabulous book recommended by my granddaughters teacher. She loved it and had leant a lot. and enjoyed the learning. She is 7 and in year 3.” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “Really love the way this book shows the magic of numbers and maths in a way I was never shown as a child. We bought for our 8 year old who has been struggling with times tables and she excitedly went into school and showed her class the tricks she had learned! Teacher and peers were impressed. And we were so happy she felt enthusiasm and pride, and stopped saying “I’m not good at maths”. Thank you, lovely book, have recommended many times” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ➕ ➖ ✖️ ➗ #mondaymorningmentalmaths #mentalmaths #braintraining #mathsfacts #multiplication

🌡️⚡️ Thermal Energy Day! Today in science, we learned about thermal energy using our @masterbooks curriculum, and I loved how it connected perfectly with our past math lessons on Celsius and Fahrenheit. Seeing math and science line up like that is something I always wished for when I taught in public school! 🙌 ⚛️ Fast-moving atoms & molecules = heat ❄️ Slow-moving atoms & molecules = cold To make it hands-on, @masterbooks had us make homemade popcorn 🍿. We watched thermal energy in action as the kernels heated up and popped—and of course, we added some flavor to our popcorn too 😋. 📓 Then we wrapped it up by notebooking what we learned in our science notebooks!

Maths is everywhere — and Year 3 is where the magic really begins! In Year 3, students move from simple counting to solving bigger, real-world problems. Addition and subtraction grow into three-digit numbers. Multiplication starts to make sense — it’s just fast addition! If you know 3 + 3 + 3, you already understand 3 × 3. Division? That’s sharing equally. If you have 12 lollies and 4 friends, how many does each get? Fractions appear too — like cutting a pizza into halves, thirds, or quarters. Students learn to read time to the minute, measure length and mass, and explore patterns and bar graphs. Year 3 maths builds confidence by connecting numbers to everyday life — shopping, sharing, telling time, and solving puzzles. When maths makes sense, confidence grows.
