I have extended my size range, the pattern has been professionally graded (not by me) but I really want to have confidence in the 3 extra sizes I have added 🧶❤️ #patterntestercall #patterntesterswanted #patterntest

Knowing your body type can save you a lot of frustration when choosing patterns. Not because your body needs fixing — but because patterns make assumptions about shape. When you understand your proportions, you can spot which patterns are more likely to work before you cut fabric. That means fewer disappointments and more successful projects. 💛 Save this if pattern shopping feels hit-or-miss. #bodytypesewing #fitfirstsewing #curvysewing #sewingconfidence #sewingover40

Be honest, do sewing patterns completely freak you out?? Like… you’re pretty sure they’re written in another language? Honestly, you’re not too wrong. Sewing does have its own language, and there’s a lot to learn, especially when it comes to patterns. One of the most terrifying (and honestly disappointing) parts of learning sewing patterns is picking your size. Maybe you’ve done something like this… You finally work up the courage to try. You pick your regular size… and it turns out terrible. Like, not even close. Then you realise there’s a body measurement chart. So you think, okay, this must be how it’s done. You measure yourself, match your measurements to the chart, pick the size it tells you to pick… You make it up… and it’s STILL two sizes too big. At that point you’re like… WHY?? But before you give up, I want you to know this: you’re not doing anything wrong. There are real reasons this keeps happening. In today’s YouTube video, I’m taking you through the real secrets of sewing patterns. We’ll cover the basics. How to read a pattern envelope, what information actually matters, and how to understand the symbols and markings without feeling overwhelmed. But most importantly, I’ll show you how to choose a better starting size. The information patterns don’t explain very well. The details that are technically there, but hard to piece together on your own. Because there are a few key places on every pattern that let you do more than just “pick a size”. They let you decide how fitted, loose, structured, or relaxed you want your garment to be. This video is part of my Learn to Sew in 30 Days or Less series, and we’re now at the pattern stage. If you haven’t watched the earlier episodes yet, I recommend starting from the beginning, as it all builds step by step. The video is live now on YouTube. Comment WATCH and I’ll send you the link. And I’d love to hear from you: What are your pattern fears, disasters, or frustrations? (Tell me because I just might make more videos answering exactly those questions!)

Yeah I couldn't help myself. I know that seems like a repeat video but it's a fixing video. I made #M8583 and it just wasn't right but I love the bones. So, I decided to add some additional fabric to the bottom while putting a gusset in the side so that I had room. I will admit sometimes it's frustrating as a plus size woman to get patterns they say should fit BUT DON'T. That's why for many years I stopped using commercial patterns for myself. But I'm on a mission this year to really analyze each pattern that I use and talk about what should be better after multiple years with no real improvement. Yes, I know there's indie patterns out there but right now I don't want to spend the money for a basic t-shirt or basic pair of pants. And most of them are just not my style. I may have to just start making my own patterns again, just thinking out loud. #curvyfashion #lesannscreations

I love drop shoulder construction — minimal, elegant, classic — but it also presents some unique challenges for grading across the size range. Understanding these challenges can help you make a more informed decision when you pick your size, especially in the plus sizes! The illustrations in this video are excerpts from my online Sweater Construction class, and the patterns I mention are Rift, Griddy, and Chroma. I’m wearing my #FiresideBeanie in @whitegumwool.
