Built a 3D game alone in 4 months for my graduation project. From concept, modeling, environment, to basic gameplay development — everything was done solo. Coming from a non-dev background, Unreal and gameplay systems were definitely the hardest part. It was exhausting. It was chaotic. But I’m genuinely proud of how it turned out. Devlog 4: Clean code doesn’t always equal good movement. 🛠️ In game development, there is a massive gap between a system that works and one that actually feels right (Game Feel). Even if your Character Controller script in Unity is perfectly structured in C#, the movement can still feel stiff. For my project, Sawmill Simulator, I’m focusing on these three pillars of polish to increase player retention: Input Smoothing for more natural responsiveness. Acceleration and Deceleration to give the character physical weight. Soft Camera Motion to prevent jarring movements and maintain immersion.
