When in doubt - print it out! @hhhhhhao17 developed this vertical sunshade mock-up to refine bracket integration and fixing strategy. Printed at 1:2 scale we've used this to evaluate fixing locations, extrusion proportions and plate thickness. Physical prototyping remains a critical part of our design process and facade development - not just on screen. January has started strong at DCA Façade, with the team back in the office and projects already gaining momentum. As the year unfolds, our focus remains on thoughtful design, strong material choices, and façade solutions that balance performance, longevity, and architectural intent. This month, we highlighted how brick slip façade systems extend well beyond large commercial builds, with @stroehergroup Brick Slip and Brick to Click Rainscreen systems bringing durability and depth to residential projects too. We also explored the role façades play in the Australian summer, where shading, breathable systems, and material selection help buildings respond to heat, light, and outdoor living in a more climate-aware way. January also saw us revisit standout partner projects and past work, including Gravity in Ohio featuring @riederfacades öko skin, a high-performance @tempio.facades ceramic façade for a next-generation data centre, Huntingtower School’s Performing Arts Centre in Melbourne, and the Campbelltown Hospital redevelopment. We rounded out the month with progress updates from Nepean Hospital, where DCA Façade has been involved across both stages of the redevelopment as it enters its final year of construction. From Europe to Australia, architects are using @riederfacades systems to shape distinctive building envelopes and push the boundaries of façade design. These projects highlight how Rieder façade solutions combine fibreC concrete skin panels with Formparts elements to create depth and strong architectural expression. The high-performance fibreC panels are only 13 mm thick and are available in a wide range of colours, surfaces and textures, giving designers significant freedom across façade applications. This facade sits in a really interesting scale boundary. All the panels are 3D printed. Every element is fabricated at a small scale. But it’s operating at an Architectural scale. This is the Arachne Facade by 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽. The building behind it is actually just a simple rectangular volume. But the facade layers up in front of it — and with the lighting, it creates this really cool mix of form, light and shadow. What I like most though is that this approach is completely transferable. You could imagine the exact same system becoming jewelry. Or furniture. Or another facade in a totally different context. It’s not about the object. It’s about the logic. It took me a while to figure out how the weaving was actually constructed. In the end, I saw it as one hexagonal grid structure — repeated, offset by half a module, then a full module. That simple shift locks all three layers together, to the point where you can’t really tell where one begins and the other ends. Simple rule. Careful repetition.
