Brooder refresh! I do a refresh every few days and a full clean out every week or two(depends on how many chicks I have). When I used pine shavings I had to clean out soooo much more! The hemp bedding from @eatonpetandpasture is the best for absorbing moisture. Here’s what they need to thrive: 🐣 Warmth: Start with 95°F under a heat lamp, dropping 5°F each week. 🛏️ Bedding: Soft, absorbent wood shavings kept dry and clean. 🥣 Food: High-protein chick starter for growing bodies. 💧 Water: Fresh, clean water every day - hydration is key! Check their behavior daily… huddled chicks = too cold, scattered chicks = too hot. Healthy chicks are active, curious, and happy!

I REALLY wish someone had told me these things before bringing chicks home… 🐥 They grow unbelievably fast. One minute they’re tiny fluff balls… the next you’re wondering how your brooder suddenly feels way too small. Size up sooner than you think! 🐥 They panic over absolutely nothing. A new treat, a shadow moves, someone enters the room… and it’s instant chaos. 🐥 They all have completely different personalities. Some are sweet, some are bold, some are dramatic, and at least one will act like they run the entire operation. 🐥 And the dust… wow. Chick down + bedding + constant movement = a fine layer of fluff on EVERYTHING. It adds up fast.
