Reaching the end of the rope is not the moment to realize you forgot a stopper knot. Always tie a stopper knot at the end of the rope and do not remove it until the last person is safely off rappel. Simple habit. Huge consequences. 🪢 Tie it 🔁 Share it 💾 Save it

Rappelling on a 6mm rad line it is hard to maintain enough friction for a controlled descent. The method shown above helps us rappel on a single strand and maintain control with extra bends in the rope.

Why not run the Spoc as your primary device when top rope soloing — or even stack two Spocs? Because the cam on the Edelrid Spoc protrudes farther beyond the side plates than the cam on the Petzl Micro Traxion. When the Spoc is used as the top device, that extra cam profile can catch on the lower device and interrupt smooth auto-feeding — exactly what you don’t want mid-pitch. My go-to TRS setup: Micro Traxion on top, Spoc as the backup. Have you run into this problem with the Spoc in your system?

Gravity works🧐 . Another simple but not often utilized tool for the toolbox. I posted this once and didn’t have my rope end closed and the internet slayed me. Rightfully so 🤪 . It’s a great tool when the ropes are hard to toss out over snowy ramps etc. Getting the rope stuck is not really an issue and if it did your partner still needs to rappel so it’s not that big of deal to solve. 2026 NEW Petzl Rig and ASAP! I have to admit I have abseiled onto a locked ASAP more times than I can count. Fortunately for ME, Petzl has updated the lock function so it can be easily turned off under load. The new RIG has some significant up grades - the one of note to mention here is you can replace worn cams. Both items feel very progressive in design. These items will be available around June or July in Australia.
