Al Capone, born Alphonse Gabriel Capone on January 17, 1899, in Brooklyn, New York, became one of the most infamous figures of America’s Prohibition era. The son of Italian immigrants Gabriele Capone and Teresa Raiola, he rose from a street gang member in New York to the powerful head of the Chicago Outfit during the 1920s. Known as “Scarface,” Capone built a vast criminal empire through bootlegging, gambling, and racketeering at a time when alcohol was illegal in the United States. He married Mae Josephine Coughlin in 1918, and they had one son, Albert Francis “Sonny” Capone. Capone had several siblings, including Ralph and Frank Capone, some of whom were also connected to organized crime activities. Despite his influence and wealth, his downfall came not from violent crime charges but from tax evasion. He was convicted in 1931 and later imprisoned at Alcatraz. Capone died on January 25, 1947. This family tree presents historical and biographical information for educational purposes, reflecting his background, relatives, and the era that shaped his legacy in American crime history.
