Here's how optional sections are scored in the ACT, plus a couple of recos: 🔬 Science: Science is no longer scored as part of the composite. The score is still out of 36, but reported separately. A few schools require science, but most don't. We have found more info about which schools are requiring/recommending science, via @appleroutheducation! ✍️ Writing: Writing is scored out of 12; any score above an 8 is considered good. We don't recommend taking the writing test outside of a school-day test requirement. Have more questions? Both are valid, but we recommend the paper test. The paper test allows students to write, annotate, show math work--which can help minimize mistakes.
