For Active Schools Week, our Fitness and Youth Work Teams worked together to host a fun-filled schedule of games and activities, promoting the health and well-being of children and young people from local schools. Active Schools Week shifts the focus away from sport and competition, towards making physical activity enjoyable for young people of all abilities. It promotes reframing physical activity as time spent moving, playing and connecting with peers. Providing local schools with access to our fully equipped Sports Hall, trained facilitators, and activities, together we had a fantastic week of fun and fitness! #ASW25 #YMCADublin #ActiveSchools @active_school_flag @ymcafitnessdublin

Active Schools Strong Communities Big shout out to the awesome students and teachers from McAuley High School, Pacific Advance Secondary School, and Otahuhu College for participating in this opportunity. From pickleball and badminton to ultimate frisbee, RPM, and a circuit to finish the energy was next level and we are so proud of all who took part. 😊 We’ve got the space, so why not utilise it! Students often engage in exercises between lessons, such as synchronized calisthenics, to promote physical fitness and mental alertness. Recent initiatives have further emphasized the importance of physical education. Starting January 1, 2024, Shenzhen mandated that schools provide one physical education class daily for grades one through nine and three classes per week for high schools. Additionally, primary and middle schools are required to offer a daily recess of at least 30 minutes. These measures aim to address rising childhood obesity rates and ensure a holistic approach to education by integrating physical fitness with academic development. The Chinese Ministry of Education has also called for schools to prioritize physical education, ensuring that PE teachers receive equal status and compensation as teachers of core subjects like math and English.
