Rhythm Over Rules: The Leadership Maturity Most Organizations Lack Most leaders don’t default to rigid policies because they love control. They default to rules because rules feel safer than discernment. Five days in-office. Unlimited flexibility. Permanent intensity. Extremes reduce emotional friction. But they also fracture systems. In today’s LEAP series episode, I address something most organizations quietly ignore: ✔ Burnout is often a rhythm failure, not a resilience failure ✔ Rigid policies signal leadership discomfort with nuance ✔ Recovery must be designed, not assumed ✔ Sustainable performance requires seasonal recalibration From an I/O psychology lens, the Job Demands–Resources model is clear: when demands consistently outweigh resources, burnout becomes predictable.
