This story is almost too crazy to be real and it's making me question everything. And mysteriously... it brings The Matrix back to mind. An ENTIRELY mapped fruit fly's brain uploaded into a simulated world, it turns out, behaves EXACTLY like a real fruit fly, and that's more disturbing than I expected. What if they upload me next... #ai #future #tech #virtual

There’s a fruit fly walking around right now that was never born. A startup called Eon Systems released a video showing a digital fruit fly controlled by a simulated brain. The system is based on the fruit fly connectome, the wiring diagram of its brain containing roughly 125,000 neurons and about 50 million synaptic connections. Researchers used this connectome data, combined with computational neuron models and predicted neurotransmitter types, to build a whole-brain simulation. They then connected this digital brain to a physics based virtual body using the NeuroMechFly simulation framework running in MuJoCo. As the simulated fly receives sensory input from its environment, signals propagate through the neural network and generate motor commands. The result is a virtual fly that can walk, groom, feed, and coordinate its movements. Unlike most modern AI systems, this behavior was not learned from training data or reinforcement learning. Instead, the model attempts to reproduce the structure of the fly’s neural circuitry so that behavior emerges from the network itself. This demonstration closes the loop between perception, neural activity, and physical movement in a connectome based brain simulation. For comparison, a human brain contains about 86 billion neurons, roughly six orders of magnitude more than a fruit fly, making human scale brain emulation an enormous scientific and engineering challenge. But if this approach continues to scale, it raises a profound question: what happens when we can run a digital model of a complete human brain? 🎥: @eonsys

This might be the future of airplanes. AI engineers have recently developed new aircraft safety prototypes designed to help planes land safely on water during emergencies. The system uses large inflatable air-cushion structures that deploy instantly, allowing the aircraft to float and remain stable on the ocean surface. Technology like this could one day reduce crash fatalities, improve emergency landing outcomes, and fundamentally change aviation safety. It’s a clear example of how quickly AI is transforming engineering.
