Alibaba launches RISC-5 chip for use in AI, cloud centers - South China Morning Post During its annual Apsara cloud computing conference, Alibaba unveiled Zhenyue 510, a controller integrated circuit (IC) designed for enterprise solid-state drives. The Zhenyue 510 will initially be deployed in Alibaba Cloud's data centers, supporting applications like AI training, online transactions, and big data analysis, as reported by the South China Morning Post which is owned by Alibaba. Alibaba Cloud highlighted that the chip delivers 30% reduction in latency for input and output operations compared to other available ICs. RISC-V, pronounced as "RISK-5," is an open-source instruction set architecture which can be used to develop custom processors for several applications, including artificial intelligence, or AI.
