Have some mild cognitive impairment trying to remember dementia patterns on imaging? Is looking at dementia PET scans one of your PET peeves? Have short-term memory loss when you read about dementia imaging? Here’s a way to remember dementia patterns so you will never forget! Major dementia imaging patterns: Alzheimer’s disease (AD) —AD has a Nike swoosh pattern—with decreased metabolism in parietal & temporal regions —Remember when you see the Nike swoosh patter, just call it! Dementia w/Lewy Bodies (DLB) —Temporoparietal hypometabolism like AD but also involves occipital cortex, specific for DLB. —DLB also extends farther to the ant. temporal cortex. —Remember, regions of hypometabolism look more like an L. And Lewy starts w/an L Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) —Frontal & temporal hypometabolism as expected, but extends along the anterior cingulate gyrus —Anterior cingulate involvement makes the hypometabolism looks like a lowercase letter f—and frontotemporal starts with f Posterior cortical atrophy —Can be from AD or DLB & has hypometabolism in the occipital & post. temporal lobe, sparing the anterior temporal lobe —Sparing the anterior temporal lobe makes the involvement look like a C instead of an L like DLB. —So remember pCa Vascular dementia —Vascular dementia has a variable distribution, depending on the regions infarcted (V is both for Vascular & Variable) —Wedged shaped regions of hypometabolism corresponding to cortical infarcts—looks like an inverted V This list isn’t all inclusive & there can be variations or even mixed dementias But hopefully this gives you a starting point you won’t soon forget! #neuroradiology #radiology #radiologist #radiologia #radiologista #radres #radiologyresident #radiologystudent #radiologylife #brain #mri #dementia #neurology #neurologyresident #alzheimer #alzheimers #meded #medicaleducation #foamed #foamrad #medstudent #medicalstudent #medicalschool #physicianassistant #nursepractitioner #radtech #anatomy #neuroanatomy #physicianassociate #nursepractitionerstudent

The highest form of intelligence is metacognition: the ability to think about your own thinking. Neuroscience shows metacognition activates a distinct brain network (prefrontal cortex, anterior cingulate, precuneus, insula) that monitors, evaluates, and regulates your cognitive processes. This isn’t just self-awareness, it’s your brain’s quality control system.🧠 Research proves metacognition predicts success better than IQ alone because it enables you to: → Catch errors before you commit to them → Know what you don’t know → Adapt strategies when something isn’t working → Make better decisions under uncertainty The best part? It’s trainable. Build metacognition by: • Practicing self-monitoring (ask: how confident am I? what could I be missing?) • Reflecting on your learning process (what worked? what didn’t? why?) • Embracing uncertainty (knowing when you might be wrong) The smartest people aren’t those who know the most. They’re the ones who know how they think #metacognition #neuroscience #mentalperformance #cognitivepsychology #mindfulness #selfreflection #ɢʀᴏᴡᴛʜᴍɪɴᴅsᴇᴛ #brainhealthmatters #psychologytips #smarternotharder #executivefunction

Did you know that trauma exists within our bodies? How trauma lives in the body👇🏽 🦵🏽Muscle tension (back, neck, shoulder, etc.) 🥱 Chronic fatigue & inexplicable tiredness 😣 Long-term health problem (IBS, chronic pain, fibromyalgia, sleep disorders, etc.) 😨Increase in fight-flight-freeze response (hyperarousal- our brain telling our body to get ready to react and to react quickly should we need to- or shuts down) 🤒Frequent illness & lowered immune system 🧠Changes in the function & structure of your brain (increased cortisol and norepinephrine responses, smaller hippocampal and anterior cingulate volumes, increased amygdala function, and decreased medial prefrontal/anterior cingulate function) Also- trauma at different stages in life will presumably have different effects on brain development. Multiple neuroimaging studies have now confirmed that screen exposure during early childhood alters both the structure and function of the developing brain. A landmark 2019 study published in JAMA Pediatrics found that increased screen time was correlated with lower integrity of white matter tracts essential for language, literacy, and cognitive control in children aged 3 to 5. These are not subtle shifts; we’re talking about physical changes in myelination and connectivity in Broca’s and Wernicke’s areas, which form the neurological basis for speech and comprehension. Additional fMRI studies show that high screen use reduces activation in the prefrontal cortex, impairs gray matter volume in the anterior cingulate and frontal lobe, and disrupts mirror neuron development the very circuits needed for empathy, attention, and human connection. Screens restructure the scaffolding of the developing brain. We’re not talking about benign entertainment here, we’re talking about neuroplastic damage during critical windows of language formation. We need to stand together to protect children on every level and that starts with protecting their developing brains. Nothing is more urgent than safeguarding the neurological integrity of the next generation. If you’re ready to take a different path, one that leads to health, not disease, you’re in the right place. SERIES: “This Segment Influences…” EPISODE 4 — C4 WHEN THIS LEVEL IS RESTRICTED, BREATHING MAY CHANGE. SERIES: “This Segment Influences…” Episode 4 — C4 “C4. If mobility is restricted at this level, the diaphragm may lose freedom of movement. Next — C5.” C4 is the fourth cervical vertebra. It contributes to segmental diaphragm regulation. The phrenic nerve arises from C3–C5. Classic anatomy phrase: “C3, 4, 5 keep the diaphragm alive.” Functional restriction at C4 may influence respiratory coordination. The real reason why your face is asymmetrical. It’s not because your sleep on a pillow on one side more than the other. Or because the way you chew. Your structure is asymmetrical inherently by nature. This can become exaggerated through: - Orthodontics/dental work - Potentially the rest of your posture (see my YouTube video on jaw and posture relationships for research) - TMJ issues (again, see above) - Repeated head trauma - Visual issues Don’t let anyone tell you or sell you on some B.S easy fix. There isn’t one. This stuff is complex. It requires someone who appreciates this kind of perspective and can properly apply treatment. Struggling with anger? 👩👧👦 SAVE THIS👇 This yogic breathing practice is called Bhastrika pranayama aka Breath of fire 🔥 It Improves your quality of sleep, memory, attention, positive feelings, and lung function. It also reduces stress, anxiety, and anger 🧠This breathing technique literally changes your brain! Specifically in the areas involved in emotion processing, attention, and awareness (amygdala, anterior cingulate, anterior insula, and prefrontal cortex). HOW TO DO: 1. In seated position inhale fully through the nose lifting your arms up above your head 2. Exhale quickly through the nose pulling your arms down at chest level Follow for more ways to calm with kids 🧡

🦋This is what’s possible when we return to the original sound of the universe! The Study: During OM chanting, brain scans showed that the insula, anterior cingulate, and orbitofrontal cortices-key areas for emotional processing-showed significantly reduced connectivity with the amygdala. This is powerful for calming down the emotional system in the brain and relieving anxiety and depression (and possibly even major depressive disorder).
