Senior animal care specialist Cherie explains that when this 33-year-old female gorilla is happy, she creates a melodic humming – almost like singing. The times that Tufani is most likely to sing are during her meals (we relate) and in the morning when she first sees Cherie! Tufani is an incredible ambassador for her critically endangered Western lowland gorilla species. During this #ApeAwarenessMonth and year-round, you can help conservation efforts by recycling your cell phone through the @ecocellrecycle project! Gorillas’ habitats in the Democratic Republic of Congo are rich in a substance called coltan, which is used in the creation of cell phones. Mining for coltan has caused the destruction of many habitats, but recycling your phone can help reduce the need for coltan and protect wild gorillas.
