Nothing beats apple picking where the views are as sweet as the harvest 🍎 Apteds Orchards has been our go to place to visit at the beginning of the year. A little about them… Apteds Orchards is family-owned and has been since 1912. The Apted family still runs the orchard today, something I truly love. There’s something special about generational knowledge of growing apples and pears being passed down, and you can taste that care in every bite. Being able to speak to the family and the people who cares for the orchard directly has such a beautiful community feel to it. And honestly, apples picked straight from the trees are on another level. Gala has never been my usual pick from the store because it can be a bit dry, but the ones here are incredibly sweet and juicy. The kids ate their fill on the way home and I think it’s safe to say we’re officially a Gala family now. With their picnic days coming up Feb 21–22, Feb 28, and March 1, it’s the perfect time to support this local orchards, pick fresh fruit, and enjoy the beautiful views with a picnic. 🍎🍏 Apteds Orchard Adventure! 🍏🍎 Yesterday, our 4-year-old children went on an exciting trip to Apteds Orchard! We hopped on the bus and headed out to explore where our delicious apples come from. When we arrived, our first stop was the big cold storage fridge 🥶! It was chilly inside, but we learned it’s the perfect temperature to keep apples fresh. We had the chance to taste all different types of apples—red, green, and yellow! Yum! 😋 Next, we strolled through the rows of apple trees and even picked our own apples to eat. They were so juicy and sweet! (And yes, some cheeky fun was had tossing apples toward Vic!) We finished our day sitting in a big trailer, enjoying our packed lunches, and then had a big run around before heading back to Story House. Visiting Apteds Orchard gave our children the chance to see firsthand where fresh fruit comes from. It helped them understand the journey from tree to table and encouraged curiosity about food, farming, and nature. Experiences like this support early learning in science, health, and sustainability, showing kids the value of fresh produce and the hard work that goes into growing it.
