The White Guardian of the Arctic The air in the Arctic Circle was crisp, smelling of salt and ancient ice. Yamato, a seasoned fisherman of Alaskan descent, sat patiently in his wooden boat, his fishing line disappearing into the dark, glassy waters. The silence of the tundra was absolute, broken only by the gentle lap of waves against the hull. Suddenly, the water began to churn. A pale, ghostly shape rose from the depths. It was a Beluga whale, its skin as white as the surrounding glaciers. Usually, these "canaries of the sea" were shy, but this one was distressed. It let out a series of high-pitched chirps and clicks, bobbing its head and nudging the side of Yamato’s boat. "What is it, old friend?" Yamato whispered, sensing the urgency. The Beluga turned and swam a few yards away, looking back at him. Yamato grabbed his oars and followed. The whale led him toward a jagged ice floe where the current was dangerously strong. There, Yamato saw a small, white head struggling to stay above the surface—a polar bear cub had fallen into the freezing slush and was too exhausted to climb back onto the slick ice. Yamato knew the risks; a mother bear might be nearby, but he couldn't let the cub drown. Using a sturdy salmon net, he carefully guided the shivering cub toward the boat. With a heave of his strong arms, he pulled the waterlogged ball of fur onto the deck. The cub let out a tiny, frightened whimper. From a distance, a large female polar bear watched from the main ice shelf. Yamato steered his boat toward the shallow ice, gently nudging the cub back onto solid ground. The Beluga whale breached one last time, spraying a mist of water as if to say thank you, before vanishing into the deep blue. Yamato watched as the cub ran back to its mother, a small reminder that in the Arctic, even the fiercest predators and the quietest fishermen are bound by the laws of kindness.

this is what 11:11pm in Norway looks like🤯 My friends and I hiked to the top of Reinebrigen in Norway during the midnight sun and spent the “night” watching the sun drift across the horizon🌅 The midnight sun happens because parts of Norway sit above the Arctic Circle. In summer, the Earth tilts toward the sun, so instead of setting, the sun just circles the horizon all night.
