So today’s setup is all about feeling warm and cozy — I’m curled up in my @self.lovejo November Sweater and it honestly feels like the perfect hug for a game night. 🍂🧣 This game, Ark Nova, was actually one of our very first deep dives into the board gaming world. The first time my husband and I played, we just had the rulebook—no videos, no guides—and it took us nearly three days to get through that first game. 🙈 Now it’s a favorite we can finish in about 45 minutes, but it still feels just as rewarding and fun every time. 🎲 Ark Nova is a strategic zoo-building game where you design enclosures, sponsor conservation projects, and attract visitors while balancing income, reputation, and conservation. Revisiting the world’s heaviest board game in just 51 seconds… did we do it justice this time? We said “we think Ark Nova is one of the most overrated board games” - but we got a bunch of comments saying we should try it again - so we did! The biggest turn off for us was the exceptionally heavy rule book, which (from memory) isn’t well written and often repeats itself. At its core though, the action system IS solid and there are a lot of routes to victory. Most things you can do feel like a viable route to winning and that’s a big plus. Our revisit still took almost 3 hours just for two players, which is frankly insane - and it still felt very heavy despite knowing the rules better. We think we were harsh rating it a 6.5, and our updated rating is 7.5. It’s still too heavy to rank higher for us, but we’re happy to keep it in our collection. What do you think, have we been fairer this time? Got in our first play of Obsession (@kayentagames ). It probably took us the first half to really feel like we understood the mechanisms and possible strategy routes. While it did feel semi complex at first, I feel like a second play will go very smoothly and I believe I could teach it pretty quickly now. A great insert from @tower_rex for Ark Nova! 🐘 Tower Rex is a Ukrainian 🇺🇦 company with a great assortment of organisers and upgraded components! Their have a Etsy shop, definitely give them a visit. I’m a fan of the fine details they gave their inserts, definitely gave their organisers a thematically feeling. I’m not sure if I like the wood they use, it feels a bit rougher as other inserts I have. I’m thinking of sanding the organiser and paint it. It would be really beautiful with all the laser artwork!
