Artemis II lifts off of pad 39B, as seen from right outside the fence. On April 1st 2026, NASA’s SLS rocket flew off the pad at 6:35 PM. Perfect light and not a cloud in the sky. The greatest launch I have ever seen by far. Four astronauts are now in low earth orbit, bound for the moon and to travel further than any human ever has. A big thank you to the hardworking employees at NASA who got this beautiful rocket off the ground. I know this moment was even more special for them than it was for me. Good luck to the crew on the rest of their journey! This video was shot on a remotely triggered video camera placed less than half a mile from the rocket. I am so so proud of it and ecstatic that it came out. 🎥 me (@nyoom.tm) for @thelaunchpadnetwork

⚠️Info: Artemis II launched on April 1, 2026, carrying four astronauts aboard NASA’s Orion spacecraft on a mission to fly around the Moon. The launch itself went smoothly, with the Space Launch System performing as expected and successfully placing Orion into orbit. Early mission phases, including key trajectory and system checks, were completed without major issues, confirming that critical systems are working reliably. Some minor problems did occur. Shortly after launch, there was a brief communication dropout between Orion and mission control, and a small malfunction in the spacecraft’s toilet system, which the crew managed to fix. Overall, the mission is progressing as planned, with no serious technical failures so far. Comment 🙌 if you read the caption! ARTEMIS II LAUNCH FROM AN AIRPLANE: @ksmathandmore was nice enough to share this video and said this was “a once in a lifetime flight experience” last night. United Airlines rerouted the flight a little bit to get a front row seat view of history being made! Artemis II is a crucial turning point in space exploration as this is the first mission to the Moon in over 50 years!

🌕📸 Artemis II Saw Earthrise From Behind The Moon Artemis II just sent home lunar flyby photos that show Earth rising above the Moon's far side from a crewed spacecraft for the first time in more than 50 years. The images came during the crew's seven-hour swing around the far side on April 6, 2026, when Orion slipped behind the Moon and lost contact with Earth for about 40 minutes. One frame shows a thin blue crescent Earth hanging over rugged terrain near Ohm crater, while another records a total solar eclipse with a glowing halo around the dark lunar disk. NASA says the crew also photographed impact craters, ancient lava flows, surface fractures, and six meteoroid impact flashes on the shadowed surface. That matters because these are not postcard shots alone; the colors, shadows, textures, and geometry give scientists fresh clues about how the Moon's crust formed and changed over time. The eclipse view matters too, because Orion's position let the astronauts watch nearly 54 minutes of totality and capture a perspective that is impossible from the ground. Artemis II was a test flight, but it already turned the Moon back into a place humans can observe directly instead of only through robotic passes and distant telescopes. If this is what one flyby produced, later Artemis missions could return with even richer surface views, better field observations, and a much sharper picture of the world we are heading back to.
