Highlights of the Atlantis Hack Squat at Fit City Cottleville ⤵️ • Adjustable Foot Plate from 44 to 63 Degrees. This allows for users with little dorsi flexion and/or flexibility to get into the proper position to get optimal quad activation. • Multiple loading weight horns to alter the resistance profile. • Multiple Band Pegs for both accommodating resistance and assistance. The assistance is important for many lifters due to the weight carriage having a starting weight of 135 lbs. • 30 degree angle which is easier on the joints • The sled travels on concave high-density nylon wheels and stainless steel rails (rather than traditional linear bearings and guide rods) for a MUCH smoother operation. Reviewing our new Atlantis Hack Squat! Definitely one of the nicest hack squats I’ve used and I love how smooth it feels. It glides like butter and you can’t ever hear it moving as you use it. One of the most exciting things about it is having the ability to adjust the back pad up. This allows you to turn the hack squat into a new movement that really targets your glutes and hams. Almost feels like a low bar squat position. This would make for a killer superset to blast the quads then go straight into the glutes and hammies. The machine has a decent amount of weight to it unloaded so you won’t need to steal all the 45 lb plates to use it. There is even a place to attach bands onto the back which is great advantage to have. Overall I’d rate this a 10/10 hack squat. This will be my new go to for squats. This hack squat variation with the foam roller was introduced to me by @thecharlesglass It’s a great way to increase the depth of your squat on the hack squat without compromising your knees or lower back. Now the reason why I like this for squats, other than the stability that it provides, is that I’m able to stop comfortably at parallel, right where I feel the most tension on my quads. I used to squat ass to grass thinking that more depth was better. Doing this exercise I realized that after parallel, I lost tension on the quads and was using other muscles to dig out of that deeper depth. Now as a former hooper, one of the worse drills was the “Wall Sit”. That’s when you lean on a wall in a sitting position as your quads catch 🔥🔥. It’s activated most when you sit parallel, no higher, no lower. Since I want to apply time under tension to the movement, a pause right at parallel mimics that same basketball drill, firing deep into the quads. This hack squat allows me to get to that parallel position under control, sit, and then dig out of it without a shift in pressure to my knees, hips, and lower back. This forces your body into a hip hinge and it will allow you to move your knees and hips in a more natural way. Machines are great but they do all the stabilization for us and we’re left with a very simple movement but the human body isn’t so simple when it comes to biomechanics. If you don’t think about pushing your hips back, you don’t allow your body to distribute the weight properly along the kinect chain (ankles, knees, hips, shoulders). This will most likely make your knees and lower back hurt ❎ Grasp the floor with your toes and push through heels. The better base you have, the more stable you’ll be, and the more power you can generate safely. When you don’t do this, you will have a weak link at the ankles and either you’ll be slightly weaker or your knees might hurt ❎ Brace hard. “Keep your core tight” you hear this all the time in gyms and fitness culture. Hack squat tips: 1.) If your knees feel uncomfortable in this exercise, there is a good chance they will feel comfortable over time. Just keep squatting with good technique, and make sure you’re pushing evenly through your heels as well as your toes. 2.) If you descend into the bottom position slowly, then you will likely stimulate slightly more growth, but in a safer way. 3.) It’s OK to come up explosively, as long as you are still under control. In fact, you may need quite a bit of explosion in order to get out of the bottom in this exercise. 4.) When I was already a very strong squatter, I was doing about three plates on this machine. This is because hack squats can take a while to get used to. Not only does this feel better over time for your knees, but you can get much stronger over time on this exercise. Want to train like me?
