I’m sure you may have heard this cue before What is trying to be conveyed in this situation is Hip External Rotation External rotation is the turning away or outward from the midline of the body. In this case it would be turning your leg/knee away from your body When we hear the cue knees out what we are really looking for is a screwing of the feet into the floor in order to increase the involvement of the entire lateral side of our leg muscles. This can increase muscle recruitment at the hip, improve stability and reduce discomfort associated with squatting movements. When creating external rotation at the hip it is key to continue to maintain ground contact on the medial (inside) part of the foot. Too often individuals will end on lifting their big toe and resting on the lateral (outside) boarder of the foot Give this drill a try to help you appreciate hip external rotation on a stable base. Lose the thereaband and it’s time to bring some awareness to how you are interacting with the ground at the foot Why is this important? Increase stability at the hip and we can potentially generate more force through the lower body Improve stability Increase force production Potential to jump higher! Questions?
