It was first proposed by J. J. Thomson in 1904 following his discovery of the electron in 1897 and subsequently rendered obsolete by Ernest Rutherford's discovery of the atomic nucleus in 1911. The model tried to account for two properties of atoms then known: that there are electrons and that atoms have no net electric charge. Logically there had to be a commensurate quantity of positive charge to balance out the negative charge of the electrons, but having no clue as to the source of this positive charge, Thomson tentatively proposed it was everywhere in the atom, the atom being in the shape of a sphere. And this map has two big zones: Āstika and Nāstika. 🌞 Āstika – "I vibe with the Vedas" These are the schools that accept the authority of the Vedas, but their methods? Totally different. Bhakti – Straight-up heart over mind. You just surrender. Feel everything, no logic needed. Advaita – Non-duality. You = the universe. No separation, no ego. It’s all One. Dvaita – Opposite of Advaita. You and God are separate, and love/devotion is the bridge. Karma Yoga – Action with no attachment. Just do your thing and let the universe sort it out. Samkhya – Logic-heavy. It breaks down reality into matter and consciousness. Pure dualism. Yoga – Samkhya’s cooler, more practical cousin. Mind-body-breath alignment to reach inner stillness. Nyaya-Vaisheshika – Lowkey philosophers + scientists. All about logic and atom theory — yeah, ancient atomic theory, no cap. Mimamsa – Ritual squad. They’re decoding ancient Vedic rituals to figure out how to live dharmically. 🌑 Nāstika – "Nah, I don’t buy the Vedas" These schools are like, "I need receipts." They don’t follow the Vedas and still drop spiritual bombs. Buddhism – Suffering is optional. Awareness is the key. Be mindful, detach, and chill. Yogacara – Reality is just mind-stuff. Your whole world? Kinda just a mind-made movie. Madhyamaka – Everything is empty, but that doesn’t mean nothing matters. It’s subtle AF. Ajñana – These are the original skeptics. Their vibe? “Bro, you can’t know anything. And that’s fine.” Charvaka – Hardcore materialist. YOLO gang. No afterlife, no karma, just vibes and pleasure. Jainism – Super strict. Every single soul matters. Non-violence to the max. Like, even to germs. Ajivika – Life is pre-written. Free will? Nah. Just ride the script. Tattvopaplava-vāda –Next-level skeptics.
