This is a fascinating story. So much has been said about Sage Agastya but not many people know about his esteemed wife, Lopamudra. She has been credited with authoring some hymns in the Rig Veda, she is known to have received the Lalitha Sahasranamam from Hayagrivar and spread it across the world. A Brahmavadini, she was a philosopher with great intellect. The hymns she has authored have been interpreted in multiple ways and I don't consider myself an expert there so I haven't brought it up in the video. It is essentially a dialogue between her and Agastya- whether it signifies her prodding him to give her attention or a discussion on eauality in spiritual partnership, I'm not sure. But she showed us what consent in a marriage may look like. She said her conjugal relationship should take place in a bed like her childhood bed and her child should have access to comfort. It could be interpreted as pushing Sage Agastya to get out of his confort zone/ strike a balance between sanyasi and grihaspati / she was an instrument in the preordained defeat of the two asuras. The story of how Agastya won over the asuras is very interesting and when he returned he asks her if she wants a hundred, thousand, ten or one son. She says she wants one son with the power of a thousand and births Drdhasyu. Lopamudra, a fierce icon showed us how crucial it is to protect your own identity irrespective of marriage and how important consent is. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
