Avionics began as simple radios and gyros; today it’s fully integrated digital flight decks, flight-management computers, RADAR, ADS-B, TCAS, and sensors that talk on high-speed buses. The electrical side is the power backbone — generators, APU, batteries, transformers and AC/DC buses designed for redundancy so a single fault never kills essential flight functions. On big jets those wires add up to hundreds of kilometres of harness routed through ribs and stringers, bundled into serviceable looms so technicians can trace, test and replace at the harness or LRU level. Maintenance scenes are almost ritual: disconnect, tag, trace, open access panels, perform continuity and insulation resistance tests, swap a line-replaceable unit, upload a software patch, run built-in test equipment. The visible chaos — heat-shrink, cable ties, crimps and connectors — is actually careful engineering: harness routing, chafe protection, shielded pairs for avionics data, and meticulous documentation so every conductor has an identity and a purpose. Glass cockpit upgrade!! ✈️ We made a MAJOR upgrade in our beautiful @piper_aircraft_inc Twin Comanche thanks to the greatest: @garminaviation. Here’s what our amazing pilot and A&P @jet_pilot_endre installed: ✅ Garmin G500 Txi Big Screen PFD ✅ Garmin 500 autopilot with roll, pitch, and pitch trim servos ✅ Garmin EIS for all engine indications ✅ Garmin 345 transponder with ADSB in and out ✅ Garmin 225 second radio ✅ Garmin 350 audio panel ✅ Garmin GI 275 emergency backup instrument ✅ Garmin Flightstream 210 that allows for seamless transfer or flightplans back and forth between Foreflight and Garmin 430 We kept the Garmin 430 since the FS 210 modernized it. Took out all old equipment including the Altimatic II autopilot and servos and all analog gauges and wiring. New panels fabricated by Classic Aviation in Reno. Wired all the new avionics done by Duncan Aviation in Las Vegas. All hardware installation and engine wiring done by Mr. Thor himself. Flies like a dream! Whadya think?? 🤩

Passengers never see it, but this compartment houses the core computers that keep the aircraft flying safely. 📍 Location • Directly below the cockpit • Accessed through a hatch in the forward fuselage • Pressurized and temperature-controlled ⚙️ What’s Inside The avionics bay contains racks filled with critical electronic systems, including: • Flight Control Computers – manage fly-by-wire flight control laws • Flight Management System (FMS) – navigation, route planning, fuel calculations • Air Data & Inertial Reference Units (ADIRU) – provide altitude, speed, and attitude data • Communication Radios – VHF, HF, and data communication systems • Navigation Systems – GPS receivers, ILS receivers, and radio navigation equipment • Central Maintenance Computer (CMC) – records system faults and maintenance data • Autopilot & Autothrust Computers All these units are mounted in modular racks called LRUs (Line Replaceable Units) so technicians can quickly swap them if needed. 🌡️ Cooling System Avionics generate heat, so the A320 uses a dedicated avionics ventilation system that: • Circulates air through equipment racks • Removes heat through heat exchangers • Maintains stable temperatures for electronics Without cooling, sensitive computers could overheat quickly. 🔌 Redundancy & Safety Airbus designs the avionics system with multiple layers of redundancy: • Multiple flight control computers • Independent power sources • Separate data buses If one computer fails, another instantly takes over. 🛠️ Maintenance Access The avionics bay is designed for easy inspection. Final round of avionics upgrade in the L-39 Albatros: complete! ✔️ We finished installing servos (the motors that drive the flight controls) and the autopilot control unit in the cockpit. We performed test flights to calibrate the pitch and roll and perform a full checkout. A&P @jet_pilot_endre worked hard to get her in tip top shape! Our L-39 Albatros is now a FULL @garminaviation glass cockpit with the smoothest autopilot ops. ever.
