Amazon’s cloud division Amazon Web Services reported a temporary shutdown at its data centre in the United Arab Emirates after objects struck the facility, triggering sparks and a fire that forced authorities to cut power. The incident comes as regional tensions escalate following Iranian missile and drone attacks across Gulf nations linked to the wider US-Israel conflict with Tehran. AWS confirmed that one Availability Zone was affected, while other zones continued operating normally to limit service disruption. Connectivity restoration may take several hours as safety inspections continue. While no direct link to the strikes was confirmed, the episode highlights growing risks to digital infrastructure in key hubs such as Dubai and Abu Dhabi. #amazon #aws #amazonwebservices #uae #dubai

Everything’s down because of AWS…🫠🚨 Some major apps were down globally, because of an Amazon Web Services outage. Here’s what you need to know. #outage #amazon #aws #cloud #internetoutage #appsdown #everythingdown #downdetector #down

🚨 Amazon just broke the internet. Millions of users woke up to find Amazon, Prime Video, Fortnite, Canva, Perplexity AI, Signal, and even Snapchat completely down. The cause? A massive AWS outage in the US-East-1 region… one of Amazon’s biggest cloud data hubs. When that region fails, everything connected to it goes dark. This wasn’t a hack. It was a cloud failure that exposed how dependent the entire internet is on just a few cloud providers. A single outage can take down half the web. That’s the reality of our digital world. Save this to stay informed and follow @cyber.queen_ for updates as I break down what really happened and how companies can prevent this next time. ☁️💻👑 #CyberQueen #Cybersecurity #CloudSecurity #AWS #Amazon #TechNews #cyberupdates #cybersec #cybersecurityawareness #cloudsecurity

Day 75: 🚨 Being OnCall During AWS Outages If you’re an Amazon Engineer you likely know that alarm all too well. Being on call during an AWS outage is not fun. Its almost like an earth quake, you just have to hold on for deer life, and hope it’ll be over soon. It was due to a bad code change to DynamoDB’s request routing and the fix was to revert the change. Since DynamoDB is a tier 1 service the outage affected many of Amazon’s key services including ECS, EC2, SNS, Redshift, and EKS just to name a few. Amazon engineers used an AI coding tool to troubleshoot a system issue. What happened next reportedly contributed to a major outage. The AI assistant suggested deleting and recreating part of the cloud environment instead of applying a small fix. That action triggered a chain of infrastructure changes and contributed to a large AWS outage that lasted hours. What went wrong? • The AI tool had high-level infrastructure permissions • Automated changes executed too quickly • Limited human review before running commands The incident highlights a new engineering challenge: AI can automate infrastructure — but without strong guardrails, mistakes can scale very fast. Monday’s massive AWS outage wasn’t a hack — it was caused by an internal network health-monitoring failure and a DNS issue in the US-EAST-1 region. The glitch broke connections to core services like DynamoDB, causing global chaos across apps like Snapchat, Venmo, and Reddit. AWS GitHub repos were hijacked via Codebuild in a supply chain vulnerability that abused a CI/CD misconfiguration. CodeBreach was thankfully discovered by Wiz researchers first, but security Misconfigurations are the number 2 risk in the OWASP Top 10 and especially easy to look over when there are so many small tweaks to configuring how you build and deploy an app end-to-end. —— Follow @cyberjasbytes for more cybersecurity news —— #aws #supplychain #cybersecurity #technews #engineer 🏷️: aws codebuild, aws hack, wiz security, aws code breach, supply chain vulnerabilities, owasp top 10, cloud security, infrastructure security, sdlc, ci/cd pipelines, developers, coding, github
