Day 75: 🚨 Being OnCall During AWS Outages If you’re an Amazon Engineer you likely know that alarm all too well. Being on call during an AWS outage is not fun. Its almost like an earth quake, you just have to hold on for deer life, and hope it’ll be over soon. It was due to a bad code change to DynamoDB’s request routing and the fix was to revert the change. Since DynamoDB is a tier 1 service the outage affected many of Amazon’s key services including ECS, EC2, SNS, Redshift, and EKS just to name a few.
