A lot of artists resist systems because they think the structure will hurt their creativity. I used to think that too. But what I kept noticing was the opposite problem. Without systems, everything depended on mood, energy, or timing. When I started working at UMG, I understood what systems are actually for. A system is there to give you autonomy in real-time. You know that steps one through five reliably move you toward an outcome. That part is stable. And the creative freedom lives inside those steps.
