On September 13, 2022, famous Yugoslav composer and musician, Kornelije Kovač, passed away. He is remembered both as the founder/member of some of the most iconic musical acts of the Balkans, and the musical genius behind countless hits of the former-Yugoslavia. After launching his career with a jazz trio in 1961, he eventually turned to rock, joining legendary group “Indeksi.” In 1968, he formed his own successful band “Korni Grupa,” which was active up until 1974. Throughout the next few decades he composed music for movies, television, and some of ex-YU’s greatest stars. Amongst them are Zdravko Čolić, Lepa Brena, and Bisere Veletanlić — to name a few. He also worked with musicians internationally, such as Paul Jones, Hans Zimmer, and Thalia. This is Korni Grupa’s performance of their hit song “Moja Generacija” (My Generation), on the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest. The song pays homage to the hardships overcome by “his generation” (those born in 1942).
