A fire burning at San Francisco International Airport on Friday afternoon sent billowing smoke over the airport as well as lanes of U.S. Highway 101 and adjacent BART and AirTrain tracks. The San Francisco Fire Department says the flames were contained to five container boxes and was not threatening any structures. The burning material included items given away to passengers, such as headphones, blankets, toiletries and hand wipes, the department said. There were no injuries, the Fire Department said. It was not immediately known what caused the fire.

Sparks flew at the San Leandro BART station early this morning when a fire broke out, damaging cables and shutting down service between Lake Merritt, Berryessa, and Dublin.
