Here you have some beginner friendly skating drills you can do with the help of a guide line. You can either use the rink’s hockey lines or draw your own. 1. Two feet slalom - perfect drill to warmup your edges but also ankles, knees and arms. 2. Experiment a little with the two feet slalom. Combine bigger and smaller curves, make them quick or slow or maybe try one footed slalom. 3. Bubbles, Lemons, Swizzles… this drill has many names and is great for practicing control, kneeflow and pushing. 4. Same with this drill, try experimenting and combining bigger and smaller bubbles. ⛸️ 1-2-3 & Change Edge Exercise This exercise trains upper–lower body separation, edge control, and timing. During the 1-2-3 pushes, the rib cage rotates toward the center of the circle, while the hips stay aligned with the curve. This can be practiced on two feet or one foot during the pushing phase. After the pushes: • Straighten the legs and squeeze them together • Maintain the same direction along the curve • The upper body rotates toward the outside of the circle, while the hips and toes continue on the curve When the ribs have rotated as far as they can go, you’re ready to change edge: • Press through the feet to move from one edge to the other • As the new edge engages, bend the knees and ankles • Repeat the sequence to the opposite side This drill teaches controlled rotation, clean edge changes, and how the body reorganizes without forcing the movement. 💾 Save this to practice on the ice #figureskating #edgecontrol #skatingtechnique #figureskatingdrills #adultskaters #iceskatingtips #skatertraining #figureskatingfundamentals

What do you see while you’re spinning?!⛸️✨ Unlike dancers, figure skaters can’t spot while they are spinning because it will break the rotation of the spin. Instead we will anchor our head in one place. The only time we are moving our head during a spin is when we are changing positions. Even when doing that, the movement and placement of our head is very strategic. Everything around us is usually quite blurry. Skaters are able to spot colors, shapes, and even lines while in the spin. This can sometimes help reduce dizziness but most importantly help us orient ourselves during programs. Despite all of these tricks and no matter how much we practice our spins, we still get dizzy. 🩵 Beginner tip: If you are struggling with your two-foot spin, keep your head looking forward without trying to look over your shoulders after each rotation. Inside forward loop is one of the difficult steps wich gain up skating skills. To make it clean, you must feel the entry, the exit, and coordinate your free leg with opposite arm action. In this drill, skate a full circle on an inside edge with the free leg behind. After the circle, switch leg and arms simultaneously and skate another circle. Soft knee, vertical axis, edge control and your loop becomes stable. #figureskating #skating #learntoskate #ice4adults #loop
