MAKING A BEADED HANDBAG! (Part 1) Ok ok so by this point the tutorial for this project has been teased so much it’s probably becoming annoying lol. BUT please know that it was one of the hardest things I’ve ever tried to explain and it’s taken me so long to get it right. This is the first half where I share the basic techniques for making a large rectangle of beads (kinda like a beaded doormat), and in the second half I’ll share later this week where I show you how to make it into a bag shape and add a handle. Here are a few really useful things to know: Beads: I used faceted acrylic beads that I bought on Aliexpress (there’s a link in my stories and I’ll add it to my website also). The sizes I’ve used are 16mm/20mm (this tutorial uses the 16mm). I also used the 14mm to make one for the girls. You need approx the following number: - 14mm: best for kids size, I used about 200 to make a small bag for the girls - 16mm: 400 - 20mm: 200 (personally I think the bigger beads look more elegant!) Fishing line: you should use 0.6mm or 0.7mm fishing line for this. I found the right stuff at @bunnings from Grunt if you’re in Australia. Don’t use stretch beading line as it doesn’t work. I usually cut off about 1m (40 inches) of line to work with - but when you’re starting out it’s a good idea to use shorter pieces to practice with because the longer they are the harder it is to work with it. Bag size: for an adult sized baguette bag you want to make a rectangle/doormat of beads that’s about 30cm x 20cm. The rows run down the long side. You then fold it longways to make the bag by beading up the sides and adding a handle. I’m sure you will have soooo many questions as it’s SUCH a hard project to explain, but you guys are so excited by this so I hope this has been helpful. It’s such a perfect gift and a I’ve just loved sitting in the sofa and doing it every night. I suggest you set this video up while you’re making your own bag and just pause and move forward as you work it out. And drop any questions below!
