Fat Bear Friday 🐻 A huge male black bear stands up to shake the fruit from a plum tree. Bears are so smart, it’s much easier to eat fallen fruit from the ground. Have a great weekend everyone! 😎 British Columbia, Canada #blackbears #bears #britishcolumbia #blackbear #sharecangeo

Just a bear, her log, and a perfectly peaceful afternoon. 💚 Lolli is perched up on her favorite log, simply soaking in the sights, sounds, and sweet forest smells like the queen of the woods she is. 🐻🌿 Show Lollie some love by saying, "Good Afternoon," to her. #TCWR #GFAS #TurpentineCreek #Sanctuary #SanctuaryLife #BlackBear #BearLife #bear #bears #happybears #rescuedbears #Woods #natural #nature #wildlife #PeacefulMoments

🐻 A huge male black bear sits in the river watching the salmon swim by. His fishing technique was so funny to watch! 😂🎣 I didn’t see him catch a fish before he followed the salmon down the river but he’s clearly eaten his share. It’s amazing to see such a big, healthy bear! British Columbia, Canada #blackbears #bears #britishcolumbia #blackbear

“I wish we could travel to Alaska to see bears one day…” 🐻✈️👇🏻 📍Brooks Falls, deep inside Katmai National Park, is one of the best places on Earth to see wild brown bears in the wild. 🐟 Every July, the salmon run reaches its peak and hundreds of brown bears gather across the region to feed before winter. It’s one of the most powerful wildlife experiences you can witness. 📷 You’ll watch safely from viewing platforms as bears catch salmon, play, and compete sometimes just feet away. You will also be able to see them around the campground, on the trails and if you get a river permit, directly in the river! 🏕️ To get here, you’ll first fly to King Salmon from Anchorage, then take a floatplane or boat into the park. You can visit for the day, stay overnight at Brooks Lodge(lottery based) or apply for a campground permit. Lodging and permits fill up fast, so plan months in advance if you’re coming in July. 🎒 The shoulder season in September is also a great time to visit, cooler, quieter, but still full of bear activity. Will Jones says his cat, Scooter, was less than enthused when two young bears showed up at his Asheville, North Carolina, home, and he has the video to prove it. 😾 Are you seeing more bear activity where you are? 🐻 Share your photos and videos with us through Chime In (link in bio), and they might be featured during News 13’s Bear Week (starting April 6, 2026). #ncwildlife #bears #asheville #wildlife

"Come over, Mum is hungry" 😂 When bears appear to “wave,” they’re not actually greeting, it’s a behaviour linked to curiosity and scent detection. Bears have relatively poor eyesight but an incredible sense of smell, so they often lift a paw and move it around to pick up scents in the air and better understand what’s in front of them. This motion can look like a wave, but it’s really the bear trying to gather information about its surroundings. It may also happen when a bear is unsure or assessing a potential threat. While it can seem friendly from a distance, it’s important to remember it’s a wild animal reacting to its environment, not interacting socially like a human would. 🎥: IG/ brookelittlebear #wildlife #bears #animals

Did you know that Alaska is one of the best places in the world to see bears? 🐻🇺🇸👇🏻 From coastal rainforests to remote salmon rivers, nowhere else on Earth offers so many opportunities to see brown bears living completely wild. 📍 Katmai National Park (Brooks Falls) Famous for bears catching salmon mid-air, Katmai is the most iconic bear-viewing destination on the planet. Every July, the salmon run attracts dozens of massive brown bears, all visible from safe viewing platforms just feet away. 📍 Lake Clark National Park Less crowded and even more remote, Lake Clark offers intimate bear encounters along beaches, rivers, and meadows. You’ll often see bears fishing, digging for clams, or walking the shoreline with epic mountain backdrops. 📍 Kodiak Island Home to the legendary Kodiak brown bear, one of the largest bears on Earth. This rugged island feels raw and untamed, with fewer visitors and the chance to see massive bears roaming rivers and valleys far from civilization. 📍 McNeil River State Game Sanctuary One of the most exclusive bear-viewing experiences in the world. Access is limited by a strict permit lottery, but those lucky enough to enter can witness dense concentrations of bears fishing side by side in complete peace. 📍 Anan Creek Best known for black bears (and the occasional brown bear), Anan is a hidden gem in Southeast Alaska. Bears gather here during the salmon run, often with fewer people and incredible forest scenery. ✈️ Most of these places require bush planes or boats to reach, and permits often sell out months in advance. But the reward is witnessing bears exactly as they should be: wild, powerful, and completely free.
