This is how we upcycled this secondhand ‘barley twist’ bedroom suite for my stepmom & dad’s bedroom. They really loved the bed I repurposed in our home, so I found a similar one for them on Facebook Marketplace and we decided to paint it white, as they wanted a fresh crisp look. The bed was only $250, and the dresser $60. I also thrifted this mirror ($35) separately to match the dresser. Next, I will be adding some color and dimension to the walls. Wainscoting wall mouldings with a sage green paint colour to add a cosy vibe . They’ve only just recently moved in their house - so this was the first step to their bedroom makeover. We also will be replacing the carpets too. To achieve this look, we sanded the bed lightly and painted the furniture using a paint sprayer. The paint sprayer saved us lots of time. We used a 3 in 1 primer-sealer- stain blocker and then painted all the bedroom suite. We used two coats of paint for the furniture. We also painted the drawer knobs from silver to gold using a brass gold paint. I IMMEDIATELY regretting buying these and I almost donated them. SO glad I didn’t! Comment the work “LINK” for a list of everything I used! I got these for $25 from Facebook Marketplace, and realized after getting home that they had a TON of water damage, swollen MDF, and rough sliding drawers. But I decided to push through and do them anyways because why not? 🤷‍♀️ After fixing the slides and the tops, I was inspired by the super talented @steelbirchstudios to add these split wood balls on the drawers. I LOVE how they came out!! Then I painted it a rich chocolate-y brown from @melangepaints . Sooo obsessed with this color. What do you think?

Custom built-ins don’t have to cost thousands. When I priced out doing this wall with even IKEA cabinets and bookcases, it would have been a couple thousand dollars. Instead, we found this solid wood bookcase on Facebook Marketplace for $200. We modified it to fit our space, anchored it to the wall, added trim and baseboards, then I primed and painted it just like I would a furniture piece. The original color didn’t matter because we planned to paint it anyway. Since then, I’ve noticed tons of similar bookcases on Marketplace priced really inexpensive because people are just trying to get rid of them. With a few modifications, many of them can be turned into custom built-ins. And we actually did the same thing with another Marketplace find to build our TV wall built-ins — I’ll show that in another video.
