A “Dorm Bundle” seems like the easy button, but here’s why we skip it. A dorm bundle is a ‘convenience pack’ of items for a dorm, usually including bedding, bathroom supplies, storage items, and a handful of little things. They’re often pushed by retailers or even included in your housing information or orientation packets. They come with: ➡️ Thin, low-grade bedding. It’s always microfiber, which tends to run hot and stretch out. The sheets pill quickly, and comforters may not make it through the year. And the linens are almost never certified to be free of harmful chemicals, which is a must for us. ➡️ Items you won’t use. Shower caddies aren’t needed if you have a private bath. Small trash cans aren’t useful (you really need a kitchen-sized one). A tiny plastic fan? No thanks. Bed risers are often not allowed or necessary. Extension cords? Almost never allowed these days! ➡️ Inflated piece counts. They load up with cheap extras you don’t need, or you should choose a different type. For example, 20 bulky plastic hangers are not the way to go - choose thin non-slip hangers instead. You don’t need 50 pieces, you need 20. And you need a better 20 that suits your room, your specific dorm’s rules and layout, and your students’ needs. That’s why we don’t believe in those dorm checklists floating around the internet either. We prefer you make your own list. We do the product testing. We compare materials. We look at durability, safety standards, room dimensions, and long-term usability. Fill your list with the good stuff that will work and will last, and you’ll end up spending less with far fewer headaches. What they actually need is enough to get through a normal week without overstuffing a tiny closet. I always grab a simple set with 2 bath towels, 2 hand towels, and 2 washcloths and call it done. One to use, one to rotate. That’s it. Dorm storage is tight, laundry isn’t always convenient, and more towels just turn into a pile on the floor.
