31,759

An experiment demonstrating the principles of classical conditioning—learning through association, similar to Pavlovian conditioning—was conducted in 1920 on a 9-month-old baby boy known as Little Albert. The experimenters were John B. Watson and his graduate student Rosalie Rayner. Why am I sharing this? Because several generations have been raised following John B. Watson’s behaviorist principles, which focus on treating behavior while avoiding emotions or attachment. Some of these principles are still used today, often without people realizing it! One of the most popular behaviorist techniques I see nowadays is the use of TIME OUTs. When you give a time out, you are essentially conditioning your child, communicating that to continue receiving your love, they must behave in a certain way. Time outs definitely work—but do you understand at what cost? Type “Albert” in the comments so I can send you the link to the full video with explanations (please, make sure your profile is open for DMs). Time to hack your brain's reward system! Overthinking gives you a fake reward; we’re using Positive Reinforcement(a powerful therapy tool) to give you a real one! When you choose action over anxiety, focus on that amazing feeling of pride and relief! That "Victory Feeling" is the fuel for your new, calm habit! The Prompt: "Describe the feeling of success you had when you last managed to choose a different action instead of overthinking." Example : I felt an initial spike of anxiety, followed by a quiet sense of pride and relief. SAVE this lesson. Use this concept to train your brain every single day! COMMENT your victory feeling in one word (e.g., RELIEF, FREE, PROUD)! Let's celebrate these wins! SHARE this with someone who needs a reminder that they are strong enough to change their habits! You are creating new patterns of peace. Let's get rewarded together. #PositiveReinforcement #Behaviorism #Day13Challenge #OverthinkingCure #BrainHacks #Motivation #MentalWellness

Fun fact: I broke a record for the 200M dash in middle school and was recruited for track in high school, while playing soccer. I showed up to a few practices but didn’t commit. Asking me to run a 2 mile warm up was crazy. I only wanted to sprint and leave. 😅 It wasn’t until 30, I realized my brain thrived on the intermittent reinforcement soccer gave my brain. Quick sprints and chasing after a ball with the intention of scoring until the process started all over again. Short repetitions of reinforcement fed my dopamine loop. Story of my life, especially as a high achieving woman. Now I LOVE delayed gratification. It’s my k!nk. #appliedbehavioranalysis #behaviorchange #functionalbehavior #motivatingoperations #behaviorism #dopamineloop #runnershigh #fitness

Operant Conditioning: Basic Concepts

Operant Conditioning (
2,897

Operant Conditioning: Basic Concepts Operant Conditioning (also called instrumental or reward learning) is a method of learning where behavior is influenced by consequences. It was developed through the work of E.L. Thorndike (Law of Effect) and B.F. Skinner. Skinner identified four major types of consequences: 1. Positive Reinforcement Definition: Adding a desirable stimulus to increase a behavior. Example: Giving your dog a treat when it comes to your call. Effect: Increases the probability of the behavior occurring again. 2. Negative Reinforcement Definition: Removing an undesirable stimulus to increase a behavior. Types: Escape: Behavior stops something bad (e.g., fastening a seatbelt to stop the annoying buzzer). Avoidance: Behavior prevents something bad from happening (e.g., stopping at a stop sign to avoid a crash). Effect: Increases the probability of the behavior. 3. Punishment Definition: Adding or removing a stimulus to decrease a behavior. Example: Scolding a child for writing on the walls. Effect: Decreases the likelihood of the behavior repeating. 4. Extinction Definition: When a behavior that previously got a reward no longer does. Example: If a child stops getting attention for whining, the whining may decrease. Effect: Decreases the probability of the behavior continuing. . . . . Ever heard of a dog who accidentally helped build psychology

Ever heard of a dog who accidentally helped build psychology? 🐶🔔 Let me tell you a quick story of Pavlov’s Classical Conditioning! 👨‍🔬✨ Ivan Pavlov, a Russian physiologist, was originally studying digestion, but while observing dogs, he noticed something fascinating — they started salivating not just when food arrived, but even when they heard the footsteps of the person bringing it. 😲 So what did he do? He experimented by ringing a bell 🔔 every time he gave food 🍖. Eventually, the dogs started salivating just at the sound of the bell, even if no food followed! 😯 📌 This led to: • 🧠 Understanding how associations are formed in the brain • 🤯 Foundational knowledge for behavior therapy • 🔁 A major step in learning theory And just like that, one man, one bell, and a bunch of smart dogs helped redefine how we understand human (and dog!) behavior. 🐕💭 🧪 Psychology isn’t always about the mind — sometimes it starts in the lab with drool. 😉 (: psychology facts, classical conditioning, learning theory, Pavlov experiment, behaviorism, psych concepts explained, studygram, neuroscience basics, dopamine education) #PsychologyFacts #Pavlov #ClassicalConditioning #PsychologyStudent #MentalHealthEducation #LearningTheory #Behaviorism #StudyWithMe #PsychExplained #ReelsThatTeach #TrendingReels #EducationalReels #MindBlown 🤯
