Pro tip: Pack a warm jacket, as it can get chilly on the ferry ride! 🌊🐬 2. Where to Stay: If you’re staying overnight, I recommend the Bellanca Hotel for its central location and AMAZING view. If you’re just doing a day trip, no worries—take the evening ferry back for a beautiful sunset return. 3. Where to Eat: 🦊Naughty Fox: A trendy spot for brunch or drinks with a vibey atmosphere. 🦞The Lobster Trap: A local favorite for fresh seafood, perfect for lunch or dinner. 🍹Descanso Beach Club: Head here for a relaxing beachside meal and the best tropical drinks! 4. Things to Do: 🏝️Rent a Golf Cart: Explore the island’s hidden gems at your own pace. It’s a fun way to see the sights and get off the beaten path! 🐋Spot Dolphins & Whales: Keep an eye out for marine life on the ferry ride over, or take a guided tour for the best chances to see these incredible creatures. 🤿Swim or Snorkel: The clear waters and kelp forests around Catalina are perfect for a snorkeling session. The water can be cold so come prepared! ⛵️Rent a Boat: Rent a boat for the day to explore the coastline and secluded beaches from the water. Best Time to Visit: Spring and summer are ideal, when the island is in full bloom and the weather is perfect for outdoor adventures. How to get to Catalina Island: the @catalinaexpress! 🛥️ ad The Catalina Express leaves from San Pedro, Long Beach, or Dana Point, but Long Beach has the most departure times. It’s also the port that comes back the latest (departs 7:45pm from Avalon!). Whether you are just spending the day or staying overnight, you’ll want to maximize your time on Catalina Island! We just had general seating on the way over (we sat at the front of the boat right behind the windows and saw dolphins!) but we upgraded to the Commodore Lounge on the way back. With the Commodore Lounge, you get priority boarding which means you don’t have to line up as early—remember that Avalon does not have an indoor waiting area. You don’t want to spend your precious island time waiting in lines! You also get complementary snacks and drinks which is well worth the cost!
