Today was one of those days—every task took longer than it should have, every step forward met with another mishap, and I started to feel like the universe had a personal vendetta against me. By the time I finally got everything done, I was way behind schedule, trudging toward the mailbox to drop off a pile of mail that was going out much later than I’d planned. As I walked, I passed a mailman and almost stopped him to ask if he could take my letters, but I didn’t want to be annoying, rude, or entitled. But wouldn’t you know—he stopped me and said, “You mailing those? I can take them for you.” It was such a small kindness, but it made my whole frustrating day feel a little lighter. New Yorkers are the friendliest. Mail carriers are the friendliest.
