Scientists have explored the use of CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing to potentially treat Down syndrome, which is caused by an extra 21st chromosome. Their research demonstrates the successful removal of duplicate chromosomes in cell lines derived from induced pluripotent stem cells and skin fibroblasts. The technique identifies and cleaves the extra chromosome while preserving one from each parent, enhancing gene expression and cellular functions. Although promising, the method is not yet ready for in vivo application due to potential unintended changes in retained chromosomes. Genome engineers have improved the ability to edit multiple DNA sites simultaneously using base editors by threefold while improving precision, reducing unwanted mutations in nearby genetic sites. Day 35 of researching a stock a day until I can quit my job. Today we’re looking at AbCellera Biologics (ABCL)

I’m heading into another year of harvest and I try not to lie to myself about my skin. My skin could change in the blink of an eye. So for now, I’m embracing this clear skin chapter, while knowing another flare might be around the corner.
