Speechless. The world’s oldest living fossil. While filming for a brand new @lovenature series about the extremes of Australia I came face to face with stromatolites. They first formed 3.7 billion years ago and are a window into understanding what early earth was like. These mounds are essentially layers of Cyanobacteria and trapped sediment. While they may not look like much to some, these ancient rocks extend 3/4s of the way back to the origins of the solar system. Wrap your head around that. I’m glad I had a mask on for this as I definitely choked up. More to come on this series later this year.. tell me this isn’t incredible!!! @lovenature 🥺💙✨

Here goes 🤷‍♀️ Here’s the part of my job you never see…. My work as an Animal Movement scientist 💚🌎 This platform favours the visually striking aspect of storytelling. Of course it does. However there’s an equally important but COMPLETELY different world that I’m working on behind the scenes. This involves hours of writing, data analysis and many days spent at a computer. For this reason, I rarely share that aspect of my life as the reality is, I can’t imagine it’s all that fun to look at on here 😂 However I was quite shocked at how many of you said you want to see more of this!! Here I’m preparing a new tag for deployment. This involves meetings & conversations with the team back at Swansea University before getting in the field and then many more hours finalising everything so that it’s ready to go out on the day with a team on location. I’m finishing the belt design, checking that everything is working, waterproofing & screwing in the lid of the housing & finally reprogrammed the VHF. It’s that time of year again where I get asked lots of questions about jellyfish. I’ll be joining BBC Radio Bristol first thing tomorrow to talk about recent jellyfish blooms but for now here’s some relaxing Blue jellyfish Chanda lamarckii taken just last night in North Wales 💙 Remember this species can vary from a pale yellow to a deep purple or blue. It has visible radial lines on the bell and does actually have a mild sting. Nevertheless these jellyfish are not to be feared! I’ll be joining efforts with the @mcs_uk this year to help you all get up close with these wonderful species and to learn more about them over the next few months.
