Biometric payments in Russia let you pay using facial recognition or other biometrics instead of cards or phones. For me, this is very convenient, especially in the metro when I’m in a rush. I don’t have to search for my card, I just pay and go. So how can you activate biometric payments? 🤔 I have to say, for foreigners it’s a bit of a lengthy process, but I’ll explain it briefly👇🏻 1. If you have a foreign passport, you’ll need a notarised Russian translation 📝🌐 2. With the translated passport, go to an МФЦ office. They’ll create an account for you on the public services portal Gosuslugi and issue a SNILS (Russian insurance number) 🏢 3. Then go to any bank with your passport and SNILS. With your consent, they’ll capture your photo and voice and upload them to EBS (the Unified Biometric System) 🏦🫆 4. Once your biometrics are in EBS, you can link your bank card or account to biometric payments in your bank’s app 📱 5. After that, you can pay at terminals that support biometric payments — just choose the option and look at the camera 💳 Things to note: - Using biometrics is optional — cards and QR payments still work ✅ - Your biometric data is used only with consent and is securely encrypted 🔒 And that’s it!
