The Blackstone Library, Chicago’s first public library branch, was funded by railroad executive and philanthropist Timothy Blackstone in memory of his late wife, Isabella Norton Blackstone. He donated $250,000 to establish the library, which opened in 1904 at 4904 S Lake Park Avenue. Designed by Shepley, Rutan, and Coolidge, the library showcases the Beaux-Arts style, featuring the Grand Rotunda, a Dome with an Oculus, Marble Columns, Mosaics, and Stained Glass. A few things to note: 💌Super quiet, perfect for deep focus 💌Mostly for researchers (appointments recommended for archive access) 💌Small space—only a few tables open to non-researchers Details: 💌Free WiFi 💌Open to the public (part of Brooklyn Public Library—get that library card!) 💌Outlets under the table P.S. The clips of me studying were taken at the Brooklyn Heights Library nearby—which is a great backup if Othmer is full or you need longer hours!
