Screw back earrings feel secure, but they’re one of the most
44,413

Screw back earrings feel secure, but they’re one of the most common failure points I see. Gold threads wear down over time. Add makeup, dirt, and constant twisting, and those backs can loosen without you realizing it. I also see cross-threading and people losing backs just trying to line them up behind their ear. This is why I usually recommend converting screw backs to locking backs instead. And this pair? They’re being turned into a classic two-stone pendant she’ll actually wear. 👉 link in bio got custom inquiries

Screw backs are NOT the safest earring backs. Gold is soft. Threads wear down. Makeup makes it worse. This is why I usually recommend locking backs instead. This pair is also becoming a two-stone pendant after she stopped wearing them. 👉 link in bio for custom inquiries

Most people think jewelry “just breaks.” It doesn’t. It wears. Every ring, pendant, and bracelet is a small engineered structure. Prongs hold tension. Shanks flex every time you grip something. Metal thins over years of friction. That’s physics — not failure. That’s why custom jewelry matters. When a piece is built correctly, it’s measured to the exact stone dimensions. The seat is cut to match the pavilion angle. Prongs are shaped to distribute pressure evenly. The shank thickness is intentional so it won’t collapse over time. Design is art — but structure is everything. Fun facts: • 24k gold is pure but too soft for daily wear. 14k and 18k are alloyed for strength. • Platinum doesn’t wear away like gold — it displaces, which is why antique platinum can often be reshaped instead of rebuilt. • Prongs are the #1 failure point on rings. They take impact before the stone ever does. • Step cuts like emerald cuts show clarity and color differently because of their long, open facets. Jewelry is one of the only luxury goods that can truly last generations. It can be resized, rebuilt, reset, polished, melted down, and made new again. Behind every high shine is filing, sanding through multiple grits, pre-polish, rouge, ultrasonic cleaning, and steam. The finish is earned. Jewelry isn’t just decoration. It’s metallurgy. It’s engineering. It’s wearable legacy.

I promise it’s not always “satisfying” over here. 🛠️ Sometimes the metal has a mind of its own and I have to walk away before I melt the whole bench down. But seeing the final Garnet and Opal 5 Hearts Pendant makes all the chasing worth it.💗❣️ The Love Spell drop is officially live at the link in my bio💕 #benchjeweler #jewelryfail #handmadejewelry #processvideo #smallbusinessowner

NO BAIL. NO PROBLEM.

Most people don’t think about the bail

NO BAIL. NO PROBLEM. Most people don’t think about the bail… until there isn’t one. This client ordered a beautiful pendant — clean, solid, exactly how she wanted it. One small detail? It didn’t have a bail. No way to get it on a chain. No way to wear it. And that’s where custom craftsmanship comes in. The bail might be a small piece of metal, but it’s the mechanical backbone of a pendant. It controls how the piece hangs, how it faces, how it moves, and even what size chain it can handle. Too thin? It bends. Too small? Your chain won’t fit. Poorly aligned? The pendant flips and never sits right. So instead of forcing a generic, mass-produced finding onto it, I built one specifically for this pendant. Measured the chain. Matched the metal. Balanced the proportions. Made sure the inside diameter would fit comfortably without looking oversized. Soldered it clean. Finished it seamless. Polished it like it was always meant to be there. That’s the difference between “adding a bail” and engineering one. In custom jewelry, the details nobody talks about are usually the most important. A bail isn’t just a loop — it’s structure, durability, and design flow all in one tiny component. When it’s done right, you never notice it. When it’s done wrong, it’s all you see. ASMR aside… this is what I love about being a custom jeweler. Problem solving. Precision. Taking something incomplete and making it wearable. Now I’m curious 👇 Do you prefer a hidden bail that blends in? Or a bold, statement bail that becomes part of the design? Let me know. And if you’ve got a pendant that needs a fix, an upgrade, or something built from scratch — you already know. No bail? No problem.
