I asked my 12-year-old son, Liam, to choose the books he has enjoyed the most over the past year. He is an avid reader, primarily drawn to true stories; however, his favorite series from this list is the Redwall series by Brian Jacques, which is a fantasy series. We encourage Liam to read widely and keep an open conversation about what he is reading. The stories on this list reflect themes of courage, bravery, human resilience, and God’s faithfulness, among others. When I originally posted this list, I included the Young Adult Adaptation of “Unbroken,” which I read years ago. I did not realize or remember that it contains one instance of the F word. It is an incredibly powerful and redemptive story, but I recommend exercising caution and wanted you to be aware. You’ll see it in the book stack, but it is not included in the list on our website. Comment BOOKS and I’ll send you a link to the entire list, including a short summary of each book and the publisher’s age recommendations. Enjoy!

❓Would you join a book club like this? 📖✨ 🫶 Welcome to @westseattlebookclub where readers from across West Seattle gather once a month to read together. 📚FAQs: ❓Do you all read the same book? Nope! Everyone brings their current read. Sometimes friends might read the same book but my FAVORITE is when you see someone reading the same book as you at book club! 📚 How does it work? So everyone comes with their personal read, grabs a drink and a spot to read and from 7:30-8:30pm we read quietly. At 8:30pm everyone who is interested stacks up their books and we take a book stack picture. This is one of my favorite parts! You see books you love, books you want to read and when the person grabs their book, you can talk to them about the book. So many connections are formed there! 📚 Wouldn’t be hard to go alone? Book club is so inviting. It can be hard to meet new people and make connections, especially as an adult, but book club has been that meeting place for so many! People offer up a chair at their table and talk about current reads, favorite bookshops, how long they’ve lived in the city, phone numbers have been exchanged and friendships made because of book club! It’s unlike anything I’ve been a part of before as a reader and it’s why I’m so grateful for it. 📚 Where do you gather? Our book club expanded to 12+ locations! We have over 500 readers on any given book club night, spread across the city! We support local businesses and they support us back from coffee shops to pubs to bars, each place has its own magic it brings to book club. We are in partnership with @westseattlejunction and are so grateful for their support! ❤️ I wish every city had a book club like this. It’s truly a magical space for readers to gather. . . . #readerlife #westseattlebookclub #bookclub #readerscommunity #bookcommunity
