This is the work behind the scenes most don’t see. There’s more to it than just slapping on a turbo kit and hoping for the best. Dialing in the boost curve on the personal Gen1 with the new @blfabrications 88mm turbo and tweaking suspension. Still plenty of boost to bring in on the back half for street settings, then have to do it all over again at the track. So what a weekend… we show up Friday and do a medium boost hit (~ 45 psi) and spin a little so the 60’ is a bit slow (1.36) and we go 8.99. I get back to the pits and we notice I’ve either bent the head (again) or cracked the head (again)… So we move on to Ryan Martin’s RS. We line up to do a pass on low boost (35 psi) and the track is tight! Car bogs and my non-man-pedal-driving-ass misses second… this is when the damper decided no more and a chunk of it broke off… luckily @parkerperformancefl had a damper and got me back running, but there was 0 chance the RS was going to make passes in anger without slipping so it was done. All big power Ecoboost need to consider a Ross damper, but that’s a convo for another day. So back to my car… it’s fl2k and if my car will come up on the transbrake then we’re going to send it. We fire it up and let things clear up and test it, boom 18 psi and we’re ready. We know it’s hurt so we do the logical thing and set the boost rotary knob to the 55 psi boost aim position 😅… we line it up, bring the car up on the TB and let it go. 1.26 to the 60’ and 8.5 out the back door! Backed up my record and got my seventh 8 second slip with a hurt car! So round 1 comes up and I’ll be damned, we got @garrett_1320video with mullet for round 1 😅😅. I thought “I don’t have any other obligations with the car except PRI for the year, and Cleet wouldn’t give up because the car was hurt” so we loaded up the 60 psi tune for 3rd and 4th gear and said yee yee! I have to say, Cleetus stopped to talk to me a bit before the race and was really down to Earth; was cool getting to chat with him a bit. We line up, I start bringing the car up but it won’t hit target boost now, I leave on like 4 psi and Cleetus is gone… but then he breaks!! Holy shit here is my chance to run down Mullet for the win, but then my problem really shows itself and the head finally cracks open really good and I have to coast the track and pull to the side watching Cleetus coast broken as well. Jimmy was doing some testing with his new set up. We tackled the tune on this car remotely. Then we also helped with his cortex boost controller file. This is a Twin Turbo gen 3 with a @tremecperformance t56 magnum. It is also equipped with a @texasspeed gen 3 coyote bottom end. Paired with @injector_dynamics id1700s and @teamlethal fuel system.
