The guide suddenly whispered: “You’re lucky… this is rare.” 😱😱 A few seconds later, a Bornean pygmy elephant walked out of the jungle and crossed the river right in front of our boat 🐘🌴🚤 We had already been cruising Borneo’s Kinabatangan River for almost two hours, just quietly watching the jungle, when we suddenly noticed movement behind the trees. Then this beautiful elephant slowly stepped out of the forest and carefully made its way across the river right in front of us!! Bornean pygmy elephants are the smallest Asian elephants and live only on the island of Borneo. They roam freely through the rainforest and migrate across large areas, which means sightings like this are never guaranteed — especially watching one swimming cross the river like this. Moments like this are what make wildlife travel so special 😍🥹 No fences. No feeding. No staged encounters. Just nature doing its thing. The Blue Planet 3 team were here only after one specific species, which I won’t be giving away to ruin the show, however the rest of the marine life thriving here is some of the best I’ve ever seen! So fand das Rettungsteam von @canborneo.id den 18 Monate alten Jack im Dezember in Ost-Borneo, gehalten als illegales Haustier, mit einer offenen Wunde unter der Kette. Heute klettert Jack fröhlich kreischend Bäume hinunter. Im BORA Rescue Centre bekommt er fünf- bis sechsmal täglich seine Milchflasche, frisst Bananen, Karotten und Papaya und lernt Stück für Stück, was ein junger Orang-Utan können muss. Sein Name? Inspiriert von der Jackfrucht, einem Lieblingssnack wilder Orang-Utans. In der Wildnis bleiben junge Männchen bis zu acht Jahre bei ihrer Mutter. Jack muss sich dieses Wissen jetzt in der Jungle School aneignen. Der Weg zurück in die Freiheit ist lang, aber er hat begonnen. Unterstütze uns mit einer Spende!
