'Perfect Darkness (II)' featuring Kublai Shan (aka @themaltedbee ) on the bass guitar from my new single - out now for stream and free / donation download at the links in my bio! The single started as a bootleg remix of the ‘nightclub’ music from the first level of Perfect Dark Zero, which I played for the first time recently. I found the idea of this virtual night club presenting an interesting dichotomy considering our new familiarity with virtual presence. It was amusing to see this virtual representation of a nightclub after we've become so used to live-streamed music / nightlife events and it posed the question, to me at least, is this night club any more or less real than any livestream or other attempt at creating virtual music performances / nightlife spaces online? Can you really be sure you aren’t the only non-simulated entity present, and does it even matter? The video was rendered in Bryce 3D using a render farm made from recycled computers, continuing a long running theme in the ako project exploring repurposing the obsolete and questioning the often planned or commercially driven nature of obsolescence. The video is made up of 1:30 mins of clips rendered / animated in Bryce, which took about 80 hours to render using an average of 4 computers. Happy Halloween everyone 🎃 🎃 I recorded the bass synth with the Electronic Cow 'miniMOO' softsynth (a.k.a. Sound Chip Synth) on the Atari 1040ST, listen to that raw YM2149F sound chip power! The video was rendered in Bryce 7 (with some text made in AfterEffects. 'miniMOO' is a fun and compact standalone abandonware synth program offering a square wave oscillator, with two sub oscillators, a noise generator assignable to any oscillator, an amplitude modulator and an LFO. A standard ADSR envelope generator can be assigned to amplitude and/or pitch. It can also be played over MIDI (and I think all the synth parameters can also be controlled over MIDI too) and has portamento.
