I have one spending variable spending category where I am cashless. Instead of using a cash envelope, I use my debit card for purchases and keep a spending tracker in my wallet to keep track of my gas budget limit. I track the expense on my checking account expense tracker, and then I track it on the spending tracker in my wallet, so I know how much I have to spend for my gas budget at any given time. I also do this with my cash envelope spending. I track the expenses on my cash expense tracker AND the cash envelopes in my wallet. I track them in BOTH places because I use my expense tracker for closing out my budget at the end of the month, and I use my cash envelopes to see how much I have to spend in each specific budget category at all times. Tracking it on my cash envelopes is about awareness for me. If I can see how much I have to spend in the moment, I am able to make more intentional spending decisions. Using spending trackers in your wallet for your variable spending is what I call the cashless method. It's perfect for people who only use their debit card for spending. FYI: My wallet is a Motern, and I have it linked in my Amazon shop via the link in my bio. #thebudgetmom #expensetracker #spendingmoney #budgettip #cashenvelopemethod #cashenvelopesystem #cashenvelopes #budgets #budgetplanner

This is the system that I use with all my clients and it has helped them kick their overspending habit. That second checking account is the game changer. Whatever you have in there is for you to spend on groceries, shopping, going out, etc. Once you've mastered this system (I'd say use this for 3-6 months), you can then upgrade to the system that I personally use which is paying for everything with credit cards and then pay it in full each month. This will make things even easier, will get you points for travel perks, and protect you against fraud. Seeing your money separated this way will help you to see its purpose more clearly. That will reinforce your motivation to save more & stop dipping into your savings. Your less likely to dip into savings when the account has a name instead of just numbers. Taking money out of your “emergency fund” or “down payment fund” will sting more than taking it from account 65437566. I personally use @ally because it has this savings bucket feature in their high yield savings account. I can set up 10 different buckets in my savings account which is really handy. So as you all know by now I’m £22k in debt and this year I’m going to pay it off…. The first step to that is budgeting. Simple hey? When I looked at my budget and saw how much I spent on non essentials I was shocked! Well honestly I wasn’t…I’ve always spent money like it was Monopoly money so a treat here or there I never even acknowledged it! So first step is acknowledging it and budgeting the “random” budget pot for all those non essentials… for me it’s mainly this! 1. Extra midweek shops (my weekly shop is £200) 2. Supplements!! (This is massive as I’m into wellness but I need to cut it down- currently I spent over £200 on supplements a month) 3. The coffees out (I think this should be an essential to keep me sane but I spend on average £55 a month on coffees out) 4. Apps (I’ve spent over £150 this year alone on app subscriptions for things I don’t even use 😭) April will be a no spend month once I’ve got paid and allocated the monthly budget…will I have any disposable at the end? #Budgets #daveramseybabysteps #debtadvice #payingoffdebt #moneyadvice

I get a lot of messages saying “Guess I’m never retiring then!” or “Guess I’m too late!” Let’s assume you’re right. There’s just not enough money or time to retire early. You’ve calculated your FIRE # and there’s no way you can reach it. Does that mean you shouldn’t invest at all? Absolutely not! What if your investments could cover HALF of your living expenses? Now you can work less hours. Hours that you can use to do WHATEVER YOU WANT. Maybe you can even switch jobs now and it won't matter that it pays less because your investments can cover the difference. Wouldn’t that be luxurious? To buy back 20-30 hours a week? Of course it is!! So please don’t feel discouraged if you can’t invest much or if you're starting later than your 20s or 30s. Do what you can & it will pay off in the long run. Whatever type of financial progress you're looking to make, I hope it includes investing. If that's something you want to start learning about or learn more about then I'm your gal! We have class on Tuesday so make sure you register & mark your calendars! 10/26 at 5:30pm (PST)/8:30pm (EST) Go to www.investforindependence.com or Click the LINK IN MY BIO!
