IKEA built-ins DIY pt 2 🔨🏡🤍✨ Comment SHOP for the links 🤍🔗 https://liketk.it/5SH3i Go back and watch pt 1 if you missed it!! This is the easiest way to do built-ins EVER and will save you thousands 👀 We used: 3 IKEA Havsta cabinets for lowers, a 3/4” finished plywood top, and 3 standard Billy bookcases (cut down to fit our 8ft ceilings). Next we secured the pieces to one another, anchored the shelves to studs in the wall, and trimmed everything out using a 1x6 header (+ crown molding) and 1-1/2” primed pine lattice molding. Now we’re filling holes with @dapproducts wood filler and caulking all the seams! Don’t skip this step- this is the detailing that makes IKEA look $$$! I’m using a 220 grit sand sponge before applying my favorite @zinsser primer. And I grabbed all of this with an easy @loweshomeimprovement curbside pickup! Follow along to see the rest of the paint process and how this project turns out! BE SURE TO CHECK OUT MY IKEA BUILT-INS HIGHLIGHT FOR MORE DETAILS 🤍 #diy #diyhomeprojects #ikeafurniture #ikeahack

You’ve been asking—- so here it is! DIY Built-in Budget Breakdown: Were you shocked this cost less than $1K? I honestly expected to spend a lot more throughout this project and surprised myself! For comparison—I was quoted over $4K for something like this. It’s crazy how much you can save when you DIY! **keep in mind** I did not include the cost of the tools or other materials I already had in the breakdown. The real hidden gem of this whole build was finding such high quality cabinets from @walmart I chose these over IKEA simply because the size fit this space better but I’m blown away by the quality of them. Living Room Built Ins Part 2! Building shelves is actually easier than you think! But these solid oak boards are no joke, they are HEAVY. Next up I need to add the backs and some frames to the front, and then we paint! What color do you think we should paint these built ins? Built-ins just make sense. They add home value, make the space feel more finished, and reduce the hassle of buying custom furniture.

3 built-in mistakes to avoid 👇✨ ⭐️Ignore scale and proportion – Oversized built-ins can overwhelm a space, while undersized ones look out of place. That’s why we decided on just one set of built-ins on the left—adding more to the right would have felt unbalanced and heavy in the room. ⭐️Skip functionality for style – Built-ins should be beautiful and practical. We made sure to include electrical outlets inside the cabinets so WiFi and entertainment devices could be tucked away neatly without cluttering the space. ⭐️Overcomplicate the design – Too many trim details or competing finishes can make built-ins feel dated. We opted for simple, clean-line trim so the design stays timeless and allows the fireplace to remain the true focal point. #builtins #builtinsdecor #interiordesign #interiordecor #interiorstylist #interiorstyling

Still waiting for a few furniture pieces, but I couldn’t wait to style our newly finished built-ins. One of my neighbors stopped by our house last night after I finished working on this room. She was the first to see the built-ins completed and styled, and as we were discussing the space, she asked me a very simple question that I couldn’t answer: “What’s your favorite piece or element in this room?” Later at night, as I reflected on her question, I realized that I don’t have a single favorite element in any room in our home. What captivates me about design is the alchemy that happens when materials and carefully chosen pieces come together. It’s through thoughtful planning and layering that something truly special emerges - a cohesive, inviting space where no one element outshines the others, but all contribute to a harmonious whole. While I couldn’t give her an answer, she shared what she loved most about this room: the art and flowers. That got me thinking - how do most people experience a space? Does your eye immediately gravitate toward one specific feature (if so, what caught your eye first in this space?), or do you take in the room as a whole? ✨Hi Friends! How’s the weekend treating you? Today, I’m finally sharing our DIY IKEA Built-Ins‼️ ✨We used four IKEA Havsta cabinets with bases and two shelf units into custom-looking built-ins. Here’s how we did it: ▶️ Prepare the Wall: We removed the existing baseboard and installed beadboard behind where the cabinets would sit. ▶️ Install Cabinets: The IKEA units were secured directly to the wall. ▶️ Add Custom Shelving & Trim: To achieve a seamless, built-in appearance (our ceilings are 8 feet), we used MirTec wood for: ➡️ Shelves between each bookcase. ➡️ A continuous top piece across the entire unit. ➡️ A face board along the top front. ▶️ Finish with Trim: We installed trim and crown molding to match our desired aesthetic, then primed and painted the entire unit for a cohesive finish. ▶️ Integrated Lighting: For hardwired sconces, we ran electrical wiring and added a switch. 3 lessons learned ⬇️ while building my first ever built in ! #1 - draw it and then tape it out - to scale on you wall. And I mean All of it. Every Shelf, all the trim and don’t forget your electrical. This saved me from a big design mistake and ultimately both time and money. Can you guess why I built this ? —Because the estimate cost to have someone else build it was more than $8000. That was not in the budget! Not even close. Which brings me to number 2: #2 - there is a reason carpenters charge such a high price tag to build something like this. It’s a lot of work. It’s a lot of calculations. And there is a lot of room for error. But that doesn’t mean it’s not possible ( clearly I accomplished it 🤣🤣). Just be prepared for it to go slower than you anticipated and be prepared to pivot when you run into unexpected problems. Was I scared ? Yes! Had I ever even built a box before? No - well technically not one that was actually square 🤣😂. Had an ever built a book case ? Nope. Which brings me to number 3: #3 Do your RESEARCH & phone a friend. Reach out to others for tips, suggestions for what to start with, and most importantly, what to avoid. But let’s be honest, one of the main reason DIYers take on projects they’ve never done before is because if you want some thing bad enough, you’re willing to make a few mistakes and move outside your comfort zone if the risk is worth the reward. I want to take on his project like this? Perhaps start with something smaller or just jump in with both feet and take on a building? Then I can be your DIY phone a friend! DM me for questions. Watch my built-in highlights to see my process as documented in my stories. AND GO FOR IT ! Trim and Nickle gap boards were provided to me by as part of their Fall builds. Why we love these Fawn Brindle built-ins: Arched open shelving draws the eye up, softens the lines, and adds timeless architectural interest. Closed cabinets + drawers below keep clutter out of sight while maximizing storage. Neutral warm tone works with any décor style and adds cozy sophistication. Pro tip: Arches aren’t just decorative — they create visual flow and subtly guide how you style your shelves. Would you display books, art, or a little bit of everything?
