Students at Burrowes Elementary School recently had the opportunity to explore the science of weather in a hands-on and engaging way as part of their 3rd-grade weather unit. The school welcomed @edrussowx, meteorologist from @whptv who brought his expertise and energy to the classroom. Meteorologists from @millersvilleu @wgal8 and @abc27news will also join throughout the lesson plan, providing diverse perspectives on weather phenomena and forecasting. The lessons, which included interactive demonstrations and discussions, captivated students and connected their classroom learning to real-world applications. This immersive experience highlighted the importance of STEM education and inspired many young minds to explore careers in science. “We’re thrilled to provide these kinds of opportunities for our students,” said Dr. Alex Rohrer, Community School Director. “Having professionals like Ed Russo and others come into our classrooms brings learning to life and makes it meaningful.” This initiative exemplifies the School District of Lancaster's community school model, which emphasizes rigorous, community-connected instruction. The week’s events were also featured on CBS21, showcasing the collaboration and excitement within the Burrowes ES community. Community schools combine challenging and culturally relevant learning opportunities with the academic and social supports each and every child needs to reach their potential.
