Caissie Levy is my go-to for emotional theatre! Her performance in Ghost still wrecks me and I know her Diana will be a burning memory for years to come! Watching the incredible combo of Jack Wolfe and Eleanor Worthington Cox made the whole evening! Show: Next to Normal Song: “Superboy and the Invisible Girl” and “I’m Alive” Next to Normal is a 2008 American rock musical with book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey and music by Tom Kitt. The story centers on a mother who struggles with worsening bipolar disorder and the effects that managing her illness has on her family. The musical addresses grief, depression, suicide, drug abuse, ethics in modern psychiatry, and the underbelly of suburban life. The musical opened on Broadway in April 2009. It was nominated for eleven Tony Awards that year and won three: Best Score, Orchestration, and Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical. It also won the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, becoming the eighth musical in history to receive the honor. In awarding the prize to Kitt and Yorkey, the Pulitzer Board called the show “a powerful rock musical that grapples with mental illness in a suburban family and expands the scope of subject matter for musicals.” In November 2023, it was announced that a production would transfer to London’s West End in 2024. The show is scheduled to play a 14-week limited engagement from June 18 to September 21, 2024 at the Wyndham’s Theatre with an official opening night scheduled for June 26. Caissie Levy is expected to reprise her performance as Diana. Her co-stars Jamie Parker, Jack Wolfe, Eleanor Worthington Cox, Jack Ofrecio, and Trevor Dion Nicolas are also expected to reprise their roles. Enjoy!
