Here are things to remember👇🏻 1) Make sure the surface of your cake is smooth and slightly chilled. A warm or uneven surface can cause the stencil to shift or the icing to smudge. 2) If you’re new to stenciling, practice on a flat surface. This helps you understand the technique and avoid mistakes on the final product. 3) Applying too much icing can cause it to seep under the stencil. Use a light hand and build up layers if necessary. 4) Ensure the stencil you’re using is designed for cakes. Paper or flimsy stencils can warp and create uneven designs. STENCILING 101 👇👇 Here are my steps for creating the perfect buttercream stencil: 1. Make sure your cake is fully set and the buttercream nice and chilled. You can use the freezer to save time but I prefer a longer time in fridge just to reduce chances of condensation. 2. Rub vegetable shortening on the entire backside of the stencil. This will not only help the stencil stick closely to the side of the cake, but also help prevent the base buttercream from pulling up with the stencil. 3. Apply buttercream to the entire stencil design and slowly and evenly scrape away the excess until a thin even layer remains. 4. Keep your scraper angled closely to the cake to reduce the risk of catching and bending any edges of the stencil design. 5. Apply any glitter or enhancements if desired. 6. Immediately and carefully pull away the stencil. 7.
