Calling all fossil lovers! Calvert Cliffs State Park in Maryland is one of the BEST places in the US to find shark teeth and all kinds of extraordinary fossils. It’s been Brad’s dream to find a megalodon’s tooth, so we hit up Calvert Cliffs, hoping to find some fossils. We found two in two hours. Typically, you can find way more than that, but it was high tide, so seeing them was a little more challenging. We’re happy with our two! Pro tip: Low tide is the BEST time to find fossils at the beach. Calvert Cliffs is a beautiful state park and a great addition to a road trip around Maryland and Virginia’s stunning coastline. I finally crossed Calvert Cliffs State Park off of my MD bucket list and it is worth the trip! 🥾🌊 This State Park is known for fossil hunting at the end of the Red Trail! This is a flat 1.8 mile out and back hike! When you get to the beach you will see tons of people sifting through the sand to find fossils such as sharks teeth! 🦈 No sifter? No problem! There is a community bin full of sifters you can use on the beach! There are over 5 trails in the park as well as a tire playground! Calvert Cliffs is about an hour and a half drive from Baltimore. Calvert Cliffs State Park 📍 Lusby, Maryland 💰$5 per vehicle, bus and large passenger vans are $10-20 (check website or call ahead) 🚶🏽‍♀️ 2 miles to the beach and 2 miles back to your car (total of 4 miles) This state park is known for its amazing views of the cliffs (hence the name) but as well as the fossils and shark teeth that can be found along the shoreline. If you’re traveling with kids I recommend a stroller or wagon… they’re not going to walk this whole trail and I do not recommend carrying them! Also there is a bathroom facility where you park but there are only port-a-potty by the beach. Things I recommend: • BUG SPRAY!! The flies out here bite and it stings! Today’s adventure was to find some megalodon teeth at Calvert Cliffs, Maryland📍We walked along the beach for about 4-5 hours looking for those prehistoric fossils but the closest we were able to find were some other prehistoric shark teeth (which the kids were still super excited about), lots of seashells and jellyfish. Everyone talks about the White Cliffs of Dover…but no one tells you there are hidden beaches tucked below them. 🏖️⛅️ We climbed down a narrow trail, through a tunnel, and down a tall ladder and ended up with the whole shoreline to ourselves! Definitely worth the effort, we stayed down here for an hour searching for shells and enjoying the view.
